Record Store Day 2019: The Mighty Boosh named UK ambassadors | BBC News "The Mighty Boosh have been announced as the 2019 UK ambassadors for Record Store Day, which celebrates independent record shops around the country. Comedy duo Noel Fielding and Julian Barratt follow the likes of Elton John, Dave Grohl and St Vincent in the role. "The bar's been set at a new height," Julian tells Radio 1 Newsbeat. "I didn't want it to change me but I think it might have," Noel Fielding adds. "It's definitely put a spring in my step.""

Record Store Day Postponed Until June Due To Coronavirus | Kerrang "Record Store Day has been postponed until June 20. The annual celebration of independent record stores and vinyl culture was due to take place on April 18, but has been delayed by two months due to the coronavirus outbreak. “We are sad to announce that following a decision made by the organisers of Record Store Day, the event will be postponed to June 20,” say the people behind Record Store Day in a statement. “This decision comes at a time of unprecedented uncertainty and the health and safety of the general public must come first. “This was absolutely not an easy decision to make as hundreds of independent shops and labels have been working hard towards this year’s celebrations. “We’re working with all of our partners and our stores to make this change as smooth as possible for everyone: customers, record stores, artists, labels and more. Record Store Day is everywhere and we want to hold our party when everyone can gather around safely to celebrate life, art, music and the culture of the indie record store. “Given the challenges now facing the independent record store community we urge music fans to continue to support their local record shop in whichever way they can to see us through what is about to become a very challenging time. “Thank you as ever for your continued support and we look forward to seeing in the record store on June 20.”"

Record Store Day has been postponed again and will now span THREE DAYS in August, September and October https://www.superdeluxeedition.com/n...O7tH7xxI-qIlvA "20 June date not happening as RSD event split into three days This year’s Record Store Day is moving again, due to the COVID19 pandemic, and will now be split into THREE ‘drop’ dates: 29 August, 26 September and 24 October. Record labels are being encouraged to evenly split their releases across these three days and the online sales rules for participating retailers are expected to be relaxed with RSD shops likely to be able to sell stock online at the end of each of the three dates (instead of waiting a week). A new RSD list will be published on 1 June which will show which releases will be available on which days. This new plan of action is thought to be a compromise solution that takes into account various territories around the world and the different stages they may be at in terms of managing the pandemic situation. This is clearly an incredibly challenging situation for labels, retailers and the industry in general and it remains to be seen how it will all work out. By definition, the event has been diluted, and while the end of August seems like a long way away, we have no idea at this stage what social distancing rules may remain in place, wherever we may be in the world. Also, if stock does indeed become available online more quickly, is that likely to be a deterrent to getting out there and queuing up at your local record shop? The other thing to consider is whether the record labels are still willing to honour their original RSD intentions. They have been sitting on stock for quite a few weeks at the time of writing, and may not be delighted at being told that at least some of their releases can now only happen on 24 October, which is nearly seven months away. There will be a temptation, perhaps, to redesignate releases as non-RSD and get them out into the marketplace much earlier. They could still support the local record shop community by making the releases ‘indie-exclusive’. Of course, let’s not forget that as well as these three days, there is also the ‘RSD Black Friday’ which apparently is still being planned and on schedule for 27 November. So that’s four Record Store Days in a row in America, which certainly seems like overkill."

Amy Winehouse and Ariana Grande among 2021 Record Store Day exclusives / BBC News "Amy Winehouse, Ariana Grande, Madness and Bjork are among the artists whose rare and unheard music will be released for Record Store Day 2021. More than 500 exclusive vinyl records will be issued for the event, which is taking place over two days (12 June and 17 July) due to the pandemic. They also include a little-known Prince acoustic album, new music from Wolf Alice and two live discs by The Police. It comes after vinyl sales hit a three-decade high of 4.8 million in 2020. If the pattern continues, record labels will make more money from vinyl than CDs this year, for the first time since 1987, when Def Leppard, T'Pau and Terence Trent D'Arby topped the charts. Record Store Day, which was established in 2007, has become one of the biggest events in the music calendar, with many independent record shops achieving their highest sales of the year. Previous events concentrated on gatherings and concerts, with long queues snaking outside shops as fans tried to snap up limited-edition releases. Last year, however, it was split into three "drops" to enable social distancing while continuing to support the sector. This year's event will take a similar approach" Relases for RSD 1 - Saturday 12th June including:
