Lynyrd Skynyrd Releasing ‘Live at Knebworth ’76’ Live Album / Rock Cellar

"On August 26, 1976, American rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd took the stage at Knebworth in the U.K. and delivered a performance as part of a huge, all-day festival that also featured the likes of the Rolling Stones, Todd Rundgren’s Utopia and many other acts.

On April 9, Eagle Rock Entertainment will release Lynyrd Skynyrd: Live at Knebworth ’76, a new live album/concert film documenting the historic performance, which featured the band’s classic lineup of Ronnie Van Zant, Gary Rossington, Allen Collins, Steve Gaines, Leon Wilkeson, Artimus Pyle, Billy Powell, and The Honkettes.

This footage, originally only available via the 1996 film Freebird … The Movie, was intercut with interviews and other performance footage. Now Live At Knebworth ‘76 presents the pure concert experience in its entirety, delivering the show as it happened that day. Kicking off with opening number “Workin’ for MCA,” Lynyrd Skynyrd ignited a powerhouse performance before over 150,000 attendees. Displaying the renowned triple guitar attack of Gary Rossington, Allen Collins, and Steve Gaines with Ronnie Van Zant’s signature vocals, Lynyrd Skynyrd: Live At Knebworth ’76 showcases fiery performances of such beloved classic rock anthems as “Sweet Home Alabama,” “Gimme Three Steps,” and of course, “Free Bird.”

Here’s a trailer:

As a bonus, the Blu-ray set also features the full-length documentary If I Leave Here Tomorrow: A Film About Lynyrd Skynyrd. Originally released in 2018, the film is an in-depth exploration of the band’s music and history"

And the track listing:

  • Searching
  • Whisky Rock-A-Roller

Waxwork Bringing Rob Zombie’s ‘The Lords of Salem’ Soundtrack to Vinyl for the First Time / Bloody Disgusting

"Rob Zombie diverted from his usual style quite a bit with the creepy chiller The Lords of Salem back in 2013, a witch-themed horror movie loaded with style and arthouse sensibilities. Starring Sheri Moon Zombie as a radio DJ who finds herself besieged by an ancient coven of witches, Zombie puts you under the film’s spell as his main character is put under theirs.

If you love the movie you probably also love the soundtrack, which plays directly into the film’s storyline. Those eerie tunes and classic songs are now coming to vinyl for the first time!

Announced this week, “Waxwork Records is proud to present Rob Zombie’s The Lords of Salem Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. Available for the very first time on vinyl and pressed to 180 gram “Satanic Rite” colored vinyl, the music of The Lords of Salem features The Velvet Underground, Rick James, Rush, Leviathan the Fleeing Serpent, John 5, and more.”

“The score features original cues by John 5 and Griffin Boice. In line with other Zombie soundtracks, the album features intermittent dialogue tracks from the movie.”

“The deluxe album package features 180 gram “Satan Rite” colored vinyl (Blood Red and Blue Butterfly effect with White Splatter), exclusive liner notes by Rob Zombie, new and original art by Robert Sammelin, a 12”x12” 16-page booklet including unreleased set photography from Zombie’s personal archive, a heavyweight art print, printed inner sleeves, and old-style tip-on gatefold jackets with satin coating. Also included is a bonus black metal album by Count Gorgann, lead vocals of Leviathan the Fleeing Serpent, entitled Corpse Eater: Satanic Misery Live for the Dead. This bonus album features a 2015 live recording at Black Forest Discothek and is pressed to 180 gram black vinyl with an etched B-Side.”

The Lords of Salem vinyl soundtrack is available for purchase April 9th, 2021."

Oh boy!

"MOTÖRHEAD celebrates 40th anniversary with reissue of "No Sleep ’til Hammersmith" as 2CD, 4CD Deluxe, DD, and vinyl 2LP. (June 25)"

The only pre-order I have been able to find is from the German Nuclear Blast site for 51.99 EUR incl. 19% VAT, plus shipping fee

"Brand new remaster created from the original tapes. Includes three CD live albums incl. a newly unearthed, previously unreleased concerts from the "Short Sharp Pain In The Neck" tour 1981. The deluxe box set includes 28 page book, poster, plectrum, tour pass, ticket, flyer and badge.

Motörhead in 1981 was a band of extremes, a flammable mix of non-stop celebration over their rising success and punishing graft, underscored by an inter-band powder-keg dynamic. After recording "Ace Of Spades", it had shot to number four in the UK, the killer breakthrough after "Overkill" and "Bomber" had done essential groundwork, late 1980's "Ace Up Your Sleeve" UK tour was a triumphant lap of honour that spilled into the recording of "No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith". The album took its title from an inscription painted on one of the trucks, referencing the 32 gigs they were playing with only two days off. The track listing ended up featuring three tracks from "Ace Of Spades", five from "Overkill", "Bomber"s title track and two from their self-titled debut. Originally released on 27th June 1981, Lemmy is quoted as saying of it "I knew it’d be the live one that went best, because we’re really a live band. You can’t listen to a record and find out what we’re about. You’ve got to see us." Upon release "No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith" went straight to number one, their first and only in the UK and is still the most necessary live album of all time. The "No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith" album, brand new remaster created from the original tapes. Pressed on vinyl as a triple album in a 20 page bookpack. Includes a live album of a newly unearthed, previously unreleased concert from the "Short Sharp Pain In The Neck" tour 1981."

Foo Fighters announce disco album 'Hail Satin' featuring Bee Gees covers / Planet Rock

"Foo Fighters are releasing a 10-track disco album for Record Store Day called ‘Hail Satin’.

Available to buy on vinyl only, ‘Hail Satin’ is released under Foo Fighters’ alter ego The Dee Gees and it boasts four covers of Bee Gees tracks – ‘Night Fever’, ‘Tragedy’, ‘You Should Be Dancing’ and ‘More Than A Woman.’

There’s also a cover of Andy Gibb’s disco song ‘Shadow Dancing’ plus five reworkings of Foo Fighters ‘Medicine at Midnight’ tracks recorded live at their 606 Studio in San Fernando Valley, California.

Announcing the album on social media, Foo Fighters wrote: “Introducing… the Dee Gees!!! Hail Satin – coming to a local record store and dance party near you July 17!!”

The limited-edition vinyl will be housed “era-appropriately in a dazzling rainbow mylar sleeve,” and The Dee Gees added: “For optimal results, listen with exposed chest hair and little gold spoon necklace.”

Dave Grohl said he became obsessed with The Bee Gees after watching their acclaimed HBO documentary earlier this year.

The second Record Store Day of 2021 takes place on Saturday 17th July.

On Tuesday night (15th June), Foo Fighters played their first concert since the start of the coronavirus pandemic at the intimate venue The Canyon in Agoura Hills, California.

The 23-song set served as a warm-up for Foo Fighters’ very special concert at New York’s world-famous Madison Square Garden on Sunday (20th June).

The ‘Hail Satin’ track-list is as follows:"

1) You Should Be Dancing
2) Night Fever
3) Tragedy
4) Shadow Dancing
5) More Than a Woman
6) Making A Fire
7) Shame Shame
8) Waiting on a War
9) No Son of Mine
10) Cloudspotter

David Bowie’s lost album Toy is finally getting an official release

The album was originally meant to be released in 2001,

David Bowie’s long-lost album Toy is getting an official release two decades after it was originally intended to hit shelves.

The 2001 album features reimaginings of some of Bowie’s earliest tracks. It was meant as a follow-up to his 1999 album Hours… but a dispute with Virgin Records led Bowie to pull the album from production

The album leaked online in 2011. Now, a decade later, it will be released officially as part of Bowie’s new Era Five box set

Depending where you are on the planet, if it’s September 29 you might be streaming the radio edit of ‘You’ve Got A Habit Of Leaving’ from the forthcoming Toy album, via your favourite streaming service,” Bowie’s official Twitter account wrote. “More details regarding that and the rest of the Era Five box, later today.”

Back in May, a selection of Bowie’s non-album singles, new remixes, and sessions from BBC In Concert were released under the title The Width of a Circle.

Above, visit the gallery above for a look through Mick Rock’s stunning photographs of Bowie in the early 1970s. And listen to the radio edit of “You’ve Got A Habit Of Leaving” below.

I haven’t bought any tapes or vinyl for donkeys yrs, but I’ve still got them all stashed in my mums attic.

Justin101 29th September 2021 09:37 PM

I noticed the HMV site has a 3 for £20 offer on tapes... Where do you even buy a tape player from these days? I miss the tape days, more than vinyl, but I don't want to go back to them.

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 29th September 2021 09:53 PM

No I couldn't man.

Especially when you were in a car-****ing chew up or had to flip the bugger and ff it flip it back to hear your fave tune again.

Of course,it's all that handsfree blutooth spotify shite now eh?

I bought a new car a few months back and I told the guy when he started showing me all the daft techno gadgets 'Listen mate,I don't even own a mobile phone,if there's no cd player I ain't buying it'. Fortunately there was.Unfortunately they've relegated it to the glove compartment.

Demdike@Cult Labs 29th September 2021 10:29 PM

I used to love creating compilation tapes for the car. Cd's just aren't the same unfortunately.

When i changed cars over two years back i was delighted it had a cd player but secretly really disappointed i couldn't play tapes.

Great to hear new Megadeth. Good song with fine clinical classic Deth guitars. Yet another thrash band (Kreator, Testament, Overkill, Destruction) making albums as good as ever.

Newly remastered release of Toyah’s 1981 Gold-selling album ‘Anthem’.

• Remastered by Nick Watson from the original master tapes and approved by Joel Bogen.

• With a brand-new introduction by Toyah Willcox in the 24-page booklet which contains stunning classic and rare images plus previously unseen out-takes from photo shoots.

• Compiled by Craig Astley, Toyah’s official archivist, who also provides new sleevenotes, the expanded 2CD+DVD release presents the full album complemented by 25 bonus tracks. Among these is the standalone hit single ‘Thunder In The Mountains’.

"Produced by Nick Tauber, with arrangements by the band and Toyah, the album features a line- up that saw Willcox and Joel Bogen joined by Nigel Glockler, Phil Spalding and Adrian Lee.

The bonus material includes a six-song live session recorded on 1 April, 1981 at BBC’s Paris Theatre in London which is released commercially for the first time ever plus ‘Thunder In The Mountains’, the third Top Ten single of 1981 by the ‘Anthem’ Toyah line-up along with a previously unreleased unfaded version of the flexi-disc track ‘For You’.

The accompanying DVD (NTSC/Region Free) presents a fascinating new in-depth interview feature with Toyah about the creation of the album plus a track-by-track commentary and exclusive renditions of three ‘Anthem’ songs, plus for the first time ever classic footage of Toyah’s 1981 BBC performances of ‘It’s A Mystery’, ‘I Want To Be Free’ and ‘Thunder In The Mountains’ and four different appearances on the legendary Top Of The Pops alongside performances originally broadcast on Something Else, Cheggers Plays Pop and Multi-Coloured Swap Shop plus the classic promo videos for ‘I Want To Be Free’ and ‘Thunder In The Mountains’, both directed by Godley & Creme.

‘Anthem’ was a big commercial success, reaching number two in the UK Top 40 album chart in May 1981. It spent 46 weeks on the album chart and was awarded a Gold album sales certification. The album followed two Top Ten hit singles, ‘It’s A Mystery’ (#4) and ‘I Want To Be Free’ (#8) both of which feature. The album also includes the anthemic ‘We Are’ and the atmospheric ‘Jungles Of Jupiter’, both classics that have remained in Toyah’s live set to this today. Toyah will embark on a 40th Anniversary Anthem tour beginning September 2022 to coincide with this special re-issue."

Oh boy!

"Rock legends Slade release a 5CD live boxset ‘All The World Is A Stage’ via BMG on Friday 9th September 2022.

Pre-order available at Amazon UK - £35.29

An aural documentation of why Slade were truly one of the finest live bands on the planet, ‘All The World Is A Stage’ consists of five separate Slade live performances between 1972 and 1981.

The CD box set boasts Slade’s seminal 1972 live album ‘Slade Alive!’ and 1982’s ‘Slade On Stage’, together with three live records that have never been released before.

Alongside the 58 songs capturing Slade in their imperious live glory, the collection also features a 16-page booklet.

The trio of previously unreleased live shows are as follows:

Live At The New Victoria: Recorded on April 24 1975, the album captures the band before they went around the UK to promote their feature film, In Flame. Heard officially for the first time, it now presents a fitting snapshot of the group’s powerful live performances.

Live At The Hucknall Miner's Welfare Club: Recorded on June 26 1980, shows the band unwilling to trade exclusively on their past with songs featured from their new studio album at the time ‘We’ll Bring The House Down’, along with classics ‘Take Me Bak ’Ome’, ‘Gudbuy T’Jane’, ‘Everyday’ and the perennial ‘Mercy Xmas Everybody’.

Alive! At Reading: The third unreleased full live set, captures the band delivering a sensational live performance to over 80,000 people at Reading Festival in 1980. As last-minute replacements for Ozzy Osbourne, few knew they were going to be performing but their sensational set was the highlight of the festival and led to Slade enjoying a renaissance in the eighties."

Iron Maiden have replaced the song ‘Gangland’ with ‘Total Eclipse’ on a newly announced vinyl reissue of their seminal third studio album ‘The Number of the Beast.’

To commemorate its 40th anniversary year, ‘The Number of the Beast’ is being released on black vinyl on Friday 18th November 2022 via Warner Music. It was previously reissued on cassette back in March.

A huge global smash that catapulted Iron Maiden into superstardom and infamy, ‘The Number of the Beast’ was the first Maiden album to feature Bruce Dickinson on vocals.

The vinyl reissue will be augmented by Iron Maiden’s live album ‘Beast Over Hammersmith’, which was recorded at London’s Hammersmith Odeon on 20th March 1982 just two days before the release of ‘The Number of the Beast.’

It’s the first time ‘Beast Over Hammersmith’ has had an official vinyl release.

Significantly, the track-listing on the new ‘The Number of the Beast’ release has changed with the track ‘Gangland’ removed in favour of ‘Run to the Hills’ B-side ‘Total Eclipse.’

Iron Maiden bassist and founder Steve Harris has long voiced his dissatisfaction with the inclusion of ‘Gangland’ and regards ‘Total Eclipse’ as a superior song.

Steve Harris comments: “On this vinyl release we get the chance to put ‘Total Eclipse' in its rightful spot on the album for the first time.

“The reason it didn’t make it in the first place was that it was all a mad rush when we were finishing the record and we had to get the ‘Run To The Hills’ single out before the tour and we basically had to pick a B-side and it was between ‘Gangland’ and ‘Total Eclipse’ and we just picked the wrong one, really!

“I think ‘Total Eclipse’ is a stronger song and the album would have been stronger if it had been on there.”

The package features exclusive liner notes written by Maiden founder and bassist Steve Harris as well as restored and expanded artwork taken from the CD format of Beast Over Hammersmith, previously only available in the Limited Edition Eddie’s Archive boxset originally released in 2002."

They're both terrible songs in my opinion, 2 of the worst they've recorded. I wonder how many squids that's going to cost. I paid £3.99 for it in Our Price back in around '89

Thin Lizzy: Live and Dangerous / super deluxe edition

"“The greatest live album of all time” expanded to 8CDs!

To celebrate the 45th anniversary of Thin Lizzy’s 1978 live album Live And Dangerous, Universal Music Catalogue will release a definitive 8CD super deluxe edition featuring a newly remastered version of the album and alongside it all the gigs recorded for Live and Dangerous!

These seven shows from London, Toronto and Philadelphia have been newly mixed by Ben Findlay from the original multi-tracks and mastered by Andy Pearce, overseen by legendary Lizzy guitarist Scott Gorham.

Live And Dangerous was originally intended to be a studio album, working with producer Tony Visconti, however, Visconti had only had a small window in his schedule, so Lizzy’s frontman Philip Lynott came up with the idea that they spend two weeks together compiling a live album instead. When Live and Dangerous was initially released in 1978, the album spent the best part of three months in the UK top ten and was only denied the top spot by one of the best-selling albums of all time, the soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever.

The super deluxe edition of Live And Dangerous finally puts to bed the myth that the album was extensively overdubbed in the studio, and demonstrates that Thin Lizzy was one of the best live bands of the 1970s.

The box set is a large format (12″ x 12″) package and includes sleeve notes with new interviews by Mark Blake and a booklet packed with rare photos and memorabilia.

Live and Dangerous super deluxe edition will be released on 20 January 2023, via UMC/Mercury."

Dance Craze: The Best of British Ska… Live! / super deluxe edition

"Dance Craze is a 1981 concert film recorded at various venues throughout 1980 at the height of the 2Tone movement. It features exclusive live recordings by The Specials, Madness, The Selecter, The Beat, Bad Manners and The Bodysnatchers.

Directed by Joe Massot (responsible for the Led Zeppelin concert film The Song Remains The Same) Dance Craze was originally released at a selection of cinemas across the UK, US and Australia and there was an album release at the same time (on cassette and vinyl). A comprehensive reissue programme restores the film and presents expanded deluxe editions of the audio on both vinyl and CD.

3CD and 3LP deluxe editions feature a previously unreleased 27-track film soundtrack which offers different mixes of many of the songs (and in the cases of The Selecter and Bad Manners, recordings from different concerts). The film disc of these sets is the original album, remastered. Both packages come with a copy of the original poster.

The audio packages are released on 24 March via Chrysalis"

Ya gotta love Dolly, ain't ya!

Dolly Parton reveals staggering 'Rockstar' album track-listing and huge list of guest artists / Planet Rock

"Dolly Parton has revealed the full track-listing and jaw-dropping array of guest performers on her upcoming rock album ‘Rockstar.’

Set for release on Friday 17th November 2023 via Dolly Parton’s own Butterfly Records imprint with distribution by Big Machine Label Group, ‘Rockstar’ boasts an astonishing 30 tracks comprised of nine Dolly-penned originals and a smorgasbord of covers of rock classics

Dolly Parton says: “I’m so excited to finally present my first Rock and Roll album Rockstar! I am very honoured and privileged to have worked with some of the greatest iconic singers and musicians of all time and to be able to sing all the iconic songs throughout the album was a joy beyond measure. I hope everybody enjoys the album as much as I’ve enjoyed putting it together!”

The album opens with the album title track and original composition ‘Rockstar’, which features very special guest Bon Jovi legend Richie Sambora. It’s followed by lead single ‘World on Fire’, which Dolly Parton will premiere at the ACM Awards on Thursday night (11th May)

Other originals include ‘What Has Rock And Roll Ever Done For You’ featuring Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks and ‘Dreamed About Elvis’ with country musician Ronnie McDowell.Elsewhere, The Beatles’ Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr reunite on ‘Let It Be’ with special guests Peter Frampton & Mick Fleetwood, and the album culminates with a version of ‘Free Bird’ featuring Ronnie Van Zant with the late Gary Rossington, Artimus Pyle and The Artimus Pyle Band.

Other guests include Heart’s Ann Wilson, Judas Priest’s Rob Halford, Motley Crue’s Nikki Sixx and John 5, Journey icon Steve Perry, Creedence Clearwater Revival’s John Fogerty, Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler, Blondie’s Debbie Harry, P!nk, Pat Benatar, Chris Stapleton, Miley Cyrus, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Sting, Lizzo, Waddy Watchel and many more

Commenting on lead single ‘World on Fire’, Dolly Parton says: “This is a song I felt very inspired to write. I think it speaks about everything and to everyone this day and time. I hope it is something that will touch you and maybe touch enough people to want to make a change for the better.”

Last February, Dolly Parton was nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and told Billboard at the time: “I’m not expecting that I’ll get in. But if I do, I’ll immediately, next year, have to put out a great rock and roll album — which I’ve wanted to do for years.”

A few weeks later, Parton announced she was “bowing out” of the shortlist as she did not “feel that I have earned (the) right” to be included on the Rock Hall’s list.

However, Parton later made a U-turn, and she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in November alongside Judas Priest, Eminem, Duran Duran, Lionel Richie, Carly Simon, Eurythmics and Pat Benatar.

True to her word, Dolly Parton pressed on with making her rock album ‘Rockstar’ and she has been teasing the names of guest performers in recent months.

Dolly Parton's 'Rockstar' will be available as a 4 LP set, a 2 CD set, digital download and on all streaming services."

Cryptic clue teases a new Rolling Stones release!

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-66592170

"The Rolling Stones appear to have revealed the title of their new album with an advert for a fictional glass repair business in a local newspaper.

The ad, which appeared in the Hackney Gazette, referenced several of the band's best-known songs.

"Our friendly team promises you satisfaction," it read. "When you say gimme shelter we'll fix your shattered windows."

The band have yet to confirm the existence of their 31st studio album.

However, the advert contained several clues: A miniature version of the Stones' famous lips logo appeared as the dot above the letter i, and the glass repair business was established in 1962, the same year the band was formed.

The company's name, Hackney Diamonds, is believed to be the title of their new album - and uses the same font as the band's 1978 album Some Girls.

The newspaper advert also features a phone number that customers can call to get a quote.

If they do, they hear a recorded message that says: "Welcome to Hackney Diamonds, specialists in glass repair: Don't get angry, get it fixed. Opening early September, Mare Street, E8. Register for a call at www.hackneydiamonds.com. Come on then."

The website offers fans the chance to join a mailing list, which is run by the Stones' record label, Universal Music."

If you are thinking of getting the Stones 'Hackney Diamonds' CD, it might be worth waiting a few weeks...

"In what must surely be some kind of record, The Rolling Stones will issue an expanded ‘live edition’ of their six-week old album Hackney Diamonds, in December.

The limited edition 2CD version includes the standard album on CD 1 paired with Live at Racket NYC on the second disc, which features the seven tracks the band performed at the launch event in New York on 19 October 2023 including debut live performances of ‘Angry’, ‘Bite My Head Off’, ‘Whole Wide World’ and ‘Sweet Sounds of Heaven’ (with Lady Gaga). The 24-page booklet includes photos from the performance by Kevin Mazur.

This Live Edition of Hackney Diamonds will be released on 15 December 2023, via Polydor."

Disc 2 track listing:
