From the French comic strip 'Hamster Jovial' which ran between December 1971 and June 1974 in the French music magazine 'Rock & Folk' The character Hamster Jovial was a tall, naïve scouts leader who loves pop music. He always tries to inspire his young scouts (two boys and one girl) with moralistic life lessons and by teaching them to sing along to songs with him, but they don't care The comic strip was controversial for frequently making risqué jokes, particularly involving the sexual antics of the little girl scout and her boyfriend Dreaming of 'Tommy' ![]() 'Who's Next' album cover parody ![]()

July 17th, 1967 - The Who are on tour in Canada. While they are in Vancouver, a certain band member (guess which one) purchases a pet piranha that he keeps in the bathtub of the hotel room he shares with John!

This seems appropriate for the moment! Cover of the song originally released by Martha and the Vandellas. The Who saw them perform it at the Motown Show at the Finsbury Park Astoria on March 20, 1965 For most of this period this song was The Who's set opener The band recorded it for the 'My Generation' album in 1965, but it wasn't included until the deluxe re-issue in 2002 However, a re-recorded version was used for the 1966 album 'A Quick One'

The Who at the 1965 New Musical Express Pollwinners Concert at the Wembley Empire Pool, London This is the earliest known recording of 'My Generation', and comes from a time when Roger had recently rejoined the band after being kicked out You can still sense the hostility towards him from the other band members, especially Pete, during the song!

What I will say about Dear Boy is that I wish someone British had written it. That said it is far more comprehensive than Dougal's book ![]()

August 2nd - 1977. The band finalize their control of Shepperton Studios in Surrey for around £350,000. The biggest movie made during their ownership will be Alien (1979) where the set designers borrow their stage lasers for a scene in the alien nest ![]() ![]()

The climax to the bands major American debut at The Monterey International Pop Music Festival in June 1967 Although they had heard about The Who smashing their instruments at the end of their show no one in the US had ever seen it until this moment According to the commentary on the 'Monterey Pop Festival 40th Anniversary' DVD box set: "Everyone told us to stay clear of The Who, they're noting but trouble, don't book them. Well, we ended up booking them and, at that time we didn't know what a 'Keith Moon' was!" The guy on the left is the sound engineer trying to save some expensive microphones! ![]()
