£14.50 plus booking fee was quite a lot back then! Metallica at the G-Mex was only £15!

Tell me about it.

Here's a few of my ticket stubs. And a QOTSA credit card.

The bottom stub on the first picture is Jim Belushi's blues band at House of Blues in LA.

I went to REM on the Tuesday Dem! amazing concert!

Some crackers there though, I tend not to go to outdoor gigs a lot and they're the ones which have the unique tickets, most of mine are just generic ticketmaster stock or Manchester Academy etc.

I remember that REM gig, I wasn't there, but (no word of a lie) every time the wind blew in the right direction, me and my mates could hear it whilst we played football on our local park, which is roughly 10 miles away from the stadium.

Same thing happened when the Eagles played there too

Also, the singer from my first band (By Design) had a cuppa tea with Michael Stipe in a cafe in Halifax around that time, we didn't believe him at band practice until he showed us proof in the form of a photo, jammy sod!

Outdoor gigs were different then. Only one day for a start and usually always top bands as support.

Take Guns n' Roses at MK Bowl in 93. They had Blind Melon, Soul Asylum and The Cult as support. Oh and Gilby was unwell or something so some bloke called Izzy performed on guitar instead.

The same tour (it seemingly ran for years) i saw them at Maine Road with a couple of unknown bands Soundgarden and Faith No More.

Who played with REM, Justin?

We got The beautiful South, Terrorvision and Echobelly.

I was supposed to be Oasis on both days if I remember, I can't remember why they pulled out but we got; Magnapop, Belly and Beautiful South who I seem to remember being a bit off their game, I think it was on the brink of their break and the height of alcoholism.

If you are interested in a great live dvd from REM i can recommend this.

I'm still pissed they called it a day. Their last two albums Accelerate and Collapse into Now were brilliant returns to form.
