I've only heard a few Marillion albums but Brave is one of them and I think it's fantastic.

You should check out a few more of the Steve Hogarth ones. Unfortunately they aren't the sort of thing that a quick Youtube play would bring out the best qualities.

I have a Spotify account and there is a great deal of Marillion stuff on there, what would you suggest to someone who is familiar with Brave?

Can you remember which others you have?

My mum's the Marillion fan, I only have Brave but I've listened to the Singles Collection (82-92) and Misplaced Childhood (obviously lol) so it's pretty much a blank slate.

In that case i'd say try Seasons End. Hogarth's first album and the most like the Fish era. It's the one with Easter on it, my fave Marillion song. You'll like it as it mentions your city in the lyrics.

Marbles is a very good example of this Marillion and even gave them a top ten single in You're Gone.

To be honest i think you could listen to any and enjoy them if you like Brave, as that is a hell of an album and quite experimental. It's my favourite of theirs i think.

I think that 'Clutching At Straws' was the last Marillion album I bought!

I saw them on the 'Fugazi' tour and also on the 'Misplaced Childhood' tour, which was the last show held at the Southampton Gaumont before it closed down for a re-fit, and re-opened as the Mayflower Theatre. It was at that show where they had been on stage about 30 minutes, and Fish came up to the microphone and said 'This is going to be the last song of the evening'! They then proceeded to play the album in its entirety

A few years later, I saw Fish on the 'State Of Mind' tour, and obviously he played a lot of Marillion songs, although not 'Grendel' (despite some loudmouths who spent the entire show calling out for it)
