Happy 61st birthday to Paul Simonon, bass player with The Clash. He was immortalized on the cover of the bands third album 'London Calling':

"The album's front cover features a photograph of bassist Paul Simonon smashing his Fender Precision Bass against the stage at The Palladium in New York City on 20 September 1979 during the Clash Take the Fifth US tour. Simonon explained in a 2011 interview with Fender that he smashed the bass out of frustration when he learned the bouncers at the concert would not let the audience members stand up out of their seats. Pennie Smith, who photographed the band for the album, originally did not want the photograph to be used. She thought that it was too out of focus, but Strummer and graphic designer Ray Lowry thought it would make a good album cover. In 2002, Smith's photograph was named the best rock and roll photograph of all time by Q magazine, commenting that "it captures the ultimate rock 'n' roll moment – total loss of control"."

Discovered this Swedish Thrash/Death/Black Metal band on Spotify recently, major Reign in Blood era Slayer riffs all over this track! \m/

I'm having a real blast from the past today and listening to the 1998 Ulver album Themes From William Blake's The Marriage of Heaven and Hell (now that title just rolls off the tongue). This was the first time they let the black metal influences go by the by and concentrated on more experimental music. It's fantastic!
