I very much doubt it. They had no real presence in America and none of their albums including Two Steps from the Move (Their fifth album) didn't even make the Billboard 200, so to say they'd go on to sell over 30 million copies of an upcoming album (As Appetite did) is some going.

In the UK album charts...
It's a known fact that England sets the stage when it comes to music - America has always followed us is this aspect - in the 60's, we gave them 'the British invasion', in the 70's we showed them what glam and punk was and in the 80's we gave them the NWOBHM! Hanoi Rocks laid the path that bands like GnR followed

Only Def Leppard who were barely metal did huge figures Stateside and that was when they became hard rock. I mean the NWOBHM wasn't actually that great over here either. Saxon and Priest were healthy sellers but neither were from the NWOBHM. I'm not saying Hanoi Rocks weren't influential, they were but they were never going to be huge as you think. That British influence that runs through so many of their songs probably held them back i'd think. You can't really class GN'R Lies as an album either. It was a stop gap and was seen as that at the time. Most of us into the scene already had half the tracks on the Live...Like a Suicide import that came out prior to Appetite. Appetite's true follow up was Use Your Illusion I & II which charted at #1 and 2 both here and in the US. |

I remember not having enough money to buy parts 1 & 2 at the same time and I had to decide which one to buy. I got part 2 specifically because I liked the colour of the cover better. I bought part 1 the following month. Just out of curiousity which one got to number 1 in the charts?
