They've changed since Brave New World. Some might say evolved but i think they've gotten more boring with more or less all of disc two of Book of Souls sounding exactly alike, as in very mid paced with either choruses which repeat the title over and over or no chorus at all.

As i mentioned yesterday, i like this new song, it sounds very southern rock with it's guitar playing, probably Smith picked that up from Richie Kotzen after making that great album together, but i fear for the actual album when it arrives if the next song isn't a classic Maiden belter.

A lot of their later albums are quite forgettable even though they have some great songs on them. Dance of Death for example and The Final Frontier (probably the worst one).

I really liked The Book of Souls though, although I would have preferred if the tour for the album didn't feature so many of the songs on the setlist because they're so long it didn't leave much time for the older songs.

Expect a '666 things you missed in the latest Iron Maiden video' post in a few weeks time, including...

...the Final Frontier’s alien skull in a smashed helmet, the R101 burned out on the ground, Ed Force One Book Of Souls plane crashed on the deck, Seventh Son poster, Eddie's boxset in the sand, the burnt out shell of the Cart & Horses pub and...SOOTY!

This is why i stopped seeing them live after the Dance of Death tour.

They play too many new, mid paced, long, boring songs. My feet would start to ache just standing there and boredom would set in.

I know people would say 'go watch them when they do the hits tours instead'. No point. I've seen them at their peak twice touring Seventh Son plus No Prayer, Fear of the Dark and X Factor tours and festivals so i've seen all the classic stuff.

Lucky you last few times they played here they only played Belfast i was going to go next time but not after the way you described it might be a wasted journey and id rather them not be tainted by a mediocre live experience.

I'm not saying it's a mediocre live experience. Not at all. It's just that personally i don't want to listen to a load of 7-10 minute epics for an hour. Doesn't help that they always play Fear of the bloody Dark either.

I loved En Vivo when i watched it recently and would lap up any new dvd/blu's they release. It may seem hypocritical to what i've just said but i did buy The Book of Souls Live and also last years Live in Mexico City digi book cd's. There's a difference between lying down with quality headphones in a dark room and listening to the songs than actually being there in an arena.
