Default Psycheheads Unite

Okay, the Metalheads are uniting. I think it is in the best interests of this forum that we PsycheHeads unite also. Those of you who love Psych Rock, psychedelia and Prog Rock....you know who you are.

We Psycheheads have a stronger tolerance to long monotous musical passages. Beat that, 3 minute heroes!

I adore Prog Rock! Funnily enough when I was younger I thought it was just a bunch of hippies who couldn't finish a song, but when I actually listened to the music, well my opinion changed forever.

Two of my favourite Prog tunes:

Genesis - Watcher Of The Skies.

Gentle Giant - Knots And Octopus Features (Live) *Simply jaw-dropping footage!*

I'm a big fan of King Crimson having been brain washed by my dad into liking them throughout my childhood along with Captain Beefheart.

I do like a lot of psychedelia and I'm presently revisiting the more folky end of it with Incredible String Band and newer bands like The Owl Service.

Cool

As I said on another thread, Ambient stuff is hard to beat when in the mood for it. Tangerine Dream, early Pink Floyd etc, But my current fave is the'Vesper' version of 'Blade runner' soundtrack. So... lights out, volume up and drift away. Kraftwerk 'Autobahn' a good place to start.

Wish I could link to some mp3s, but as we know not allowed. Although links to YouTube seem to be OK. So I'll give it a try(I'll edit in when I find something)

King Crimson are peerless. Robert Fripp is a true guitar genius.

King Crimson - Frame By Frame.

Autobahn is a great album, probably my favourite by Kraftwerk, with Trans Europe Express a close second.

King Crimson are superb, Fripp is one of the finest guitarists I've heard, complex riffs, use of effects....brilliant. In the Court of the Crimson King and Red are my top 2 by them.

Foxtrot is a fantastic album, but I've always preferred the earlier Nursery Cryme. Trespass is a wondereful album too - and unique in that it doesn't feature Phil Collins on this, their debut album.

Funnily enough, I never rated Collins until I heard his playing in the early Genesis albums and now I consider him a drumming god!

The only prog band i really like is Marillion.

Its just not a genre i have bothered to explore, although i do have a few albums by Porcupine Tree and Dream Theatre.

I like the heavier prog music of Opeth and Mastodon.

Funnily enough, I had the good fortune to meet the one and only Fish a number of years back after a Celtic/Hibs game. He was a cracking bloke with a good sense of humour. Do you know what he's upto these days?
