I've just got my hearing and sense of balance back from Sunday's Hawkwind gig at the Coronet in the "Big Smoke". The Coronet was the theatre where Charlie Chaplin strutted his stuff before nobbin' off to the USA in search of stardom.

"System 7" started the crowd up (System 7 website in case any electronica nuts are about). The legendary Steve Hillage (a favourite of "The Hermit") and his good lady Miquette Giraudy made a lot of joyful noises which combined to send yours truly to Nirvana (the place not the band, I don't know, some people, tchh)!

The main course was Hawkwind! A feast of sound an vision! Sequencers, pink lights, grinding 12 bar electric guitar, computer graphics, theremin, fire-dancing girl, and... a chance in a lifetime to see Tim Blake and Steve Hillage sharing, no...tearing up the stage as two old mates can!!! I tell you, all my Christmases came at once, I can now die a happy old hippy!!!

Happy Solstice time y'all!

Did you see them in Southampton at The Brook on the 19th December?

No Suze, the Southampton gig was announced the day after we'd got the London tickets. I'm glad I went for those now because I haven't seen Steve Hillage since the "Live Herald" tour in about '79 or '80. It's funny, y' know, some people don't age like you'd expect; what I mean is hard to put into words but Dave Brock looks like young Dave Brock with a few more creases, Alice Cooper looks much like Alice Cooper always did but Steve Hillage looks like an aging IT rep in a T-shirt! Being a gentleman I won't comment on the looks of Miquette Giraudy except to say she glowed (and could still do with a good feed).

The Doobie Brothers - Santa Barbara, California '82 (YouTube).

A flawless performance from the band with a lot more hits than you can remember. Worth seeing for the final twenty minutes alone. 5/5.

Maybe some nice person can put it up here? Thank you!

I for some reason didn't see the posts about John Carpenter playing in Manchester but have just bought myself a ticket for the Friday night Roll on Halloween!
