I'm currently listening to it for the third time today and, although it's very good, I still prefer the more guitar-oriented rock of Showbiz and Origin of Symmetry.

It's a pretty decent album, but Sonic Boom was a lot better!

Whats the new ZZ Top album like Prince?

I've heard it has grooves and a great production but lacks any memorable tunes.

I own all ZZ Top albums, and that includes their first albums with both the original mixes and the "80s"-sound. And, to be totally blunt, I like all of their albums. With the exception of El Loco and Afterburner (both are pretty mediocre when compared to ZZ Top's usual standards) I'd rate all albums four or five stars. La Futura gets a five-star-rating from me.

As for the production: if you dislike Rubin's style, you'll hate the sound. If you love Rubin (and I do), you'll think the album kicks ass big time.

As for grooves and tunes: excellent stuff. It really sounds as if ZZ Top had listened to all their previous albums and picked the best parts of each record before recording La Futura.

Excellent songs: I Gotsta Get Paid (ZZ Top are wizards - they take a HipHop song and transform it into badass cool music!), Chartreuse (i.e. Tush 2012), Consumption (one of the coolest songs ever - soooooo laid-back), I Don't Wanna Lose, Lose, You (sounds a bit like one of the greater Eliminator songs), Flyin' High (extremely catchy song - ZZ Top meets AC/DC meets contemporary rock), It's Too Easy Manana (slow, dusty, bluesy - should be accompanied by a Tequila!), Big Shiny Nine (kicks ass, Rhythmeen-style), Have A Little Mercy (classic ZZ Top at their very best).

Good song: Heartache In Blue (typical ZZ Top song - absolutely ok)

Mediocre song: Over You (pretty boring ballad)

Greetings!
