I've been a big fan of REM since the Green album.

SHP isn't really that representative of them i must admit.

I saw The Beautiful South support REM at the McCalpine Stadium in Huddersfield on the Monster tour.

They were merely dull. They appeared after the brilliant Terrorvision so they never stood a chance with their maudlin ditties.

Can't help thinking that this thread would work better if people didn't just name bands/songs they don't like, but gave actual reasons why they didn't like the bands/songs!

"It's total s***" or "the singer is ugly" is not (in my mind) enough reason to justify the dislike of a song

I wasn't there, but I could hear it from my house 10 miles away everytime the wind blew that way. Terrorvision were/are an awesome band, I had the pleasure of meeting them back in 1996 in Leeds

There are songs I really hate and what makes me hate them even more is that whenever they're played in a packed pub, tw@s sing their hearts out to them - I call them 'C***s anthems' - these are...
That's one of the reasons I hate those Decon Blue and 4 Non Blondes songs. It's like there's some unwritten rule that they have to be played at the end of every night.

Adele is awful and I absolutely loath that song I posted above.

'Love Shack' has got to be one of the worst songs ever. It's truly, truly awful.

I'm not a fan but not opposed to them, either. That said 'Shiny Happy People' is an incredibly bad song. As Denis Leary once said:

"And I also don't go for this other thing now, with MTV being so big where you get a band that gets a hit video, and all of the sudden they think that they're like icons and they can tell us how to feel about environmental issues and how to vote and stuff. You know what I'm talking about? Like R.E.M. "Shiny Happy People" "Hey Hey Hey Hey Hey! Pull that bus over to the side of the pretentiousness turnpike, alright!? I want everybody off the bus. I want the shiny people over here, and the happy people over here, ok! I represent angry gun-toting meat-eating f*****g people, alright!" Sit down and shut the f*** up, Michael".
