Great Drummers

Rather than occupy other threads with this discussion, I think it's a good enough subject to warrant its own thread.

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 27th October 2012 11:31 AM

I've just asked my mum and dad about who they consider great drummers and they both mentioned Ginger Baker as they can remember his 15 minute solos! However, they both say he's famous rather than great.

I found this list of the 10 greatest rock drummers and it's hardly surprising that some of the best are heavily influenced by jazz.

Terri Bozzio (Frank Zappa, UK, Missing Persons,, Jeff Beck, Korn, Debbie Harry)
Phil Collins
Gene Krupa (Eddie Condon, Benny Goodman, Louis Bellson, Anita O'Day) John Bonham and Keith Moon cited him as an influence
Carl Palmer (Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Asia)
Rick Allen (Def Leppard)
Buddy Rich (Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra)
Jimmy Chamberlin (Smashing Pumpkins)
Neil Peart (Rush, Buddy Rich Big Band)
Danny Carey (Tool)
Keith Moon (The Who)
John Bonham (Led Zeppelin)

For full explanations (a small paragraph on each) and a YouTube video illustrating their skills, look at the website where I found the list. Top Ten Drummers Of All Time | News @ Ultimate-Guitar.Com
