Extremely disappointing. It was neither as funny nor as intense and dark as it wanted to be. Hope the rest of the series improves on this inauspicious beginning.

as i was hipped to CB with the statement "it's you on tv, seriously" i watched him with amusement, feeling that yes my apoplectic ranting was being forced onto national telly. even though i feel that since he became Mr Huq, he has softened slightly, but this was pure Brooker to the end. though next week's will have to top it...hmmm. felt more assured than DS nice to see the Black Panther again!

I thought Dead Set was great! But then I thought The Thing remake was ok, so what do I actually know about movies/TV shows, right? This first part of Black Mirror was intriguing. I found it a little lightweight for Brooker but it encapsualted society's fascination with everything internet and the old chestnut "Be careful what you you wish for..." as far as the gallows attitude of the audience. |

I enjoyed it. Not quite what I thought it would be! I tend to find with Charlie Brooker's stuff that there's a sense of "look how clever this is" about it, but still, an enjoyable show I thought. |

I loved it. I've watched it twice! I showed it to my 16 - 19 year old students as well. It's such a clever piece of work. Looking forward to next week's now.

I'm writing a piece for Tom at the moment, but some small thoughts: I really liked the episode. Like all great TZ episodes, this was a social commentary on how social media not only runs our personal opinions but also the media itself. Even more interestingly the episode did a superb job of mirroring audience’s reactions as the episode went on. When the task is announced, we don't know whether to laugh or be shocked. But as time goes on, we get intrigued as to how this story will play out - Will he do it? What will happen? Will we watch it? Only for when the act is undertaken, we are almost disgusted, appalled and even disturbed. Subtle brilliance from Brooker. I look forward to the rest of the series.

I am still unconvinced by this programme, but must admit that I have found myself thinking back to it in the days since broadcast. So it clearly had some power that I didn't notice at the time. But I am still not convinced it was a success. |
