What the bbfc should do is wait see what happens after the screening in London. If someone runs out and mutilates a prostitute with a razor, then fine, the cuts should remain. If that doesn't happen they should pass it uncut.

Of course the chances of that not happening are slim because, as we all know, us simple folk are too easily influenced by these things.

Unfortunately there are people who mutilate themselves or other people with razors and other easy to get items for sexual kicks and I imagine the BBFC will always bear that in mind.

I just bought this for £3 and watched it. Loved every moment of it, have to say that it's one of Shameless's stronger releases.

anyone sick enough to get off on nipple slicing wont be watching very obviously fake effects in dodgy old italian horror films they'll be downloading violent porn online! the bbfc are protecting no-one with this cut, they're just insulting genre fans.
sorry to state the obvious but it makes me mad!
are shameless resubmitting for the bluray? maybe the bbfc will see sense this time? would everyone emailing the bbfc help like it did with inferno?

Very true. Although the nipple, is real the razor is clearly fake and is in no way slicing though the nipple , more drawing around it , but unfortunately the BBFC could view it as a scene that might arouse a small and very sick minority and lead them to seek harder stuff online and still insist on a cut.

infact, remember that looney who shot the person sitting infront of him at the cinema during schindlers list? he said he 'did it to test god's faith'.
i agree with censorship for actual criminal acts, such as child/violent porn, but as far as film illusion goes, i think you should be able to film babies raping corpses in swimming pools full of shit with no plot or point whatsoever, so long as you dont involve real shit, babies or corpses it's fine by me.

I've got the BU Blu Ray of this film and LOVED it, shame about the cuts to this release but that's what happens when you live in a country governed by saddo Tory twats. Top movie though. I know a lot of people think of Fulci as a hack but some of the cinematography in this film is brilliant!

I watched this again last night and can't help feeling Fulci dropped the ball on this one, could've been one of his best, it has a great New York atmos, you can almost smell the pizza and pretzels... but the over the top nasty gore and "quackity quack" make it just too much for most, even I feel like a full body scrub afterwards, he sure had a warped view of things, I've turned people on to his stuff with 'flesheaters' and 'beyond' but you can't show this to anybody with a "bit violent" warning like with 'flesheaters' or any Argento flick, in fact I'm surprised shameless got thru as much as they did, think he wanted his fave Catriona Macall to star, bet she would have passed if they gave her a script or treatment, have to sign off now as there is someone outside my door making "quack quack" noises.

I don't think Fulci fumbled at all on this one. Forget it as a straight horror film and place it instead within the Giallo canon, and you'll see why it's so effective. It basically takes all the Giallo elements and cranks it up to 10. It's an uber violent Giallo for sure, but I also think it's one of Fulci's best films. I'd definitely rate it as highly as his quartet of horror films.
