I was more shocked by the brutality of the opening scene in the beyond where the guy is whipped and tortured. I was also shocked by the drill scene in house by the cemetery, not just by the scene but by the fact the dad character decides to do it. That left me very shocked. Like I say NYR just didn't do it for me as a movie and thats not saying its crap, sick, or anything else...just in case the self rightious want to have a yelp.

Yes.

I kind of like it in a kitsch way, but it is not one of Fulci's better films and it does not deserve the reputation it has, in my opinion.

The humour is what saves it.

There's a bit more restored footage in the Fan Edition - the reinsertion of a shot/scene that wasn't in previous versions. I believe the contentious nipple/razor scene isn't as heavily cut in the Fan Edition. There's also more extras, like interviews and stuff.

I started this thread a while ago. I have recently re visited the film at the advice of others. I must say I enjoyed the film so much more the second time around. For some reason the pace felt quicker and the down beat plot seemed more interesting than before. I felt like it was a film where everyone is hiding something. Obviously there's the killer, but then there's the cop who shags whores. The smart guy who likes gay erotica yet flirts with his co worker.
Anway it's funny what a second viewing can do.

Those 'restored' scenes are in the old Anchor Bay/BU, and AWE dvds. The nipple scene looks like it's been slowed down to make it appear there is a little extra footage.
