FRIDAY ANNOUNCEMENT #2

Richard Lester Cuban revolution flick starring Sean Connery
Release date: 12th September
Title: Cuba
Year: 1979
Format: Blu-ray
Features: Production Stills Gallery
Original Theatrical Trailer
Reversible Sleeve Incorporating Original Poster Artwork

"Part Heaven... Part Hell... Pure Havana.

The legendary Sean Connery headlines an all-star cast in director Richard Lester’s (Superman II & III) epic tale of love during revolution. Major Robert Dapes (Connery) is a mercenary sent to Cuba at the request of the corrupt General Bello (Martin Balsam, Psycho). While there he witnesses the horrors of the brutal Batista regime that hired him and rekindles his relationship with old flame, Alexandra Pulido (Brooke Adams, The Dead Zone), who is now married to wealthy plantation owner Juan (Chris Sarandon, Fright Night). As Havana falls into turmoil, Dapes finds himself a target of the uprising.

Visually stunning and lavishly realised, Cuba is a stylish thriller come sweeping love story that is gorgeously lensed by Oscar-winner David Watkins (Out of Africa). Cuba is a must-see for fans of historical cinema and marks its HD premiere in the UK thanks to the rum-sipping rogues at 88 Films!

Doesn't even look like there are hi-res versions of the others floating around online, so you might get your wish. It's on the US blu, but I really like the middle one with Kober in the mask.

Unfortunately, like Sahara and Man From Deep River? It's another one I'll have to pass on due to it being cut.

Cockfighting. I know most people don't have a problem with that, but a censored film is a censored film, and as Damon Wayans said in In Living Color as Homie The Clown......

This was also on the section 3 bbfc video nasty list. There is a great review of it in the Video Nasties 2 documentary from Nucleus.

But isn't every film a censored film?

Anyway.......

I watched Stromboli last night and there is a scene where the actor sets a ferret onto this cute bunny, and you can seethe whole attack. The cute bunny was tortured just because.... Well, just because I guess.

So if they let through a scene where a bunny is tortured by a ferret, why not cockfight also!?!

Because the Censors do not have set guidelines or laws (As is quoted by the miss-informed) but a bunch of vague guidelines that can be interpreted differently depending on the examiners own morals and standards. It is a "Classist" system where if a film is arty-farty and has subtitles it will get away with far more than a low budget gore fest. (Unless your arty farty subtitled film is called A Serbian Film....LOL!!)

Seriously, how can you put any faith in an organization that lies in its very title? Classification and censor are opposite ends of the spectrum, to be one, it's impossible to be the other.
