To considered some of the films the BBFC do pass uncut these days it wouldn't surprise me if Maniac could get through unscathed. The remake sailed through the BBFC and I can't remember any particular instances in the original that would need to be trimmed. Is it exploitative? Yes. Is it grubby? Yes. Is it untasteful? Absolutely!

If 88 have secured Maniac I wonder if it would be a Vault title or a Slasher Classic?

My guess would be the latter as it fits alongside movies like Nightmares in a Damaged Brain, Slaughterhouse and Nail Gun Massacre much better than Joe Bullet, Street Trash and Pigs.

Plus it's a slasher and it's certainly a classic.

That's just stating the bleeding obvious – I was trying to think laterally!

Well, maybe. I've read today someone on here say The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was a poorly acted mess so, you know, let's start with the bleedin' obvious and take it from there.

That'll teach me for taking things for granted!

This is a (mostly) kind and forgiving cult film forum.

As a wise man once said: It's better to stay silent and be thought a fool than open your mouth and remove all doubt.
