Definitely.

I've actually been wanting to watch it again for some time having not seen it in years after someone I follow watched in on Letterboxd. It's great to see films like this getting the BD treatment.

88 Films have said many times on Facebook that nobody buys or wants DVDs anymore. Although I prefer to by Blu's these days, I don't agree with that one bit, there's still plenty of people that haven't upgraded their players yet (Demdike being a prime example), so by only releasing these titles on BD is definitely alienating a certain amount of potential buyers.

Do they not do dual-format? I have yet to buy an 88 Films release (I know, I know) so I have no idea.

No, some of their earlier releases (the Full Moon titles) were released on both formats, but recently they've only released DVDs if there wasn't a HD alternative available e.g Unhinged or Alice, Sweet Alice.

Like I said, it doesn't bother me as I'll always opt for the HD release, but I do think it's a little foolish to not consider DVD only buyers. I believe they have said in the past that DVD sales were poor, so it's not a smart move financially to release dual format or separate editions.

I know it's not fair to Demdike but I guess 88 Films did the maths and realised that the cost of producing a DVD wasn't justified when most of their target audience have upgraded to BD.

I can't really blame them as they are an independent company aimed at a niche audience so it's not like they have money to burn.

Ah, the casualties of economics.

I've only today ordered the US releases of Scalps and Slaughterhouse because i wouldn't get to see them otherwise. Still they are both fully loaded editions and the two cost around a tenner delivered.

Basically if i'm an exception to the rule then all well and good, but if 88 releasing these blu's only advertises the films as such then yeah they will miss out... if that makes sense.

I agree with you and am not complaining nor being critical.

The truth of the matter is that pretty much everything getting a blu release nowadays is available on dvd anyway, so those like me who are dvd only collectors probably have them anyway.

Scalps and Slaughterhouse are exceptions as they were never actually on my radar until 88 said they would be releasing them on blu.

It's good that you at least have an option.

I had to import a French DVD of Johnnie To's The Mission as there was no UK release and the OOP US DVD was severely cropped (2.35:1 to 1.85:1). Thankfully, my French is passable nowadays but it was rough going in those early days.

I held out for ages before getting a blu ray player, and that was only for the extras on the frankenhooker blu. 88 will get plenty of my cash because their releases are cheap but a lot of titles they own have never been released on dvd in this country,so i can sympathise with anyone who feels they are been pushed into buying a blu ray player. Believe me there are plenty of horror loving pensioners out there just getting to grips with dvdS. Arrow and eureka release combi packs I dont know why they dont experiment by releasing one combi pack to see if it sells better.
