And mine.

Likewise i've never seen it either but remember the old vhs cover. The doc swayed it for me too.

Same, without checking I’m fairly certain the one I remember is a Graham Humphreys cover, similar to his ROTLD one

gag 19th April 2021 08:16 PM

I've also ordered spookies but at same time Ive got it on a double bill with a blade in the dark.

Demdike@Cult Labs 19th April 2021 09:26 PM

Is Pledge Night any good?

Has anyone actually seen it?

Justin101 19th April 2021 10:10 PM

My copy of Pledge Night is on the way, I never ordered Spookies because I have the Vinegar Syndrome version.

Never seen Pledge Night but it sounded fun and was only a tenner.

From 101, it might have been a pre-order offer? I ordered and paid for it about 2 months ago.

Yeah, it's £12 now. I like the cover so i know i'll end up buying it eventually. Unless you say it's terrible. :D

They have regular sales so you'll be able to buy it for £6 in a month or so
Not sure how soon I'll get around to seeing it as I have 2 more Urban Legends films to watch, Some Jackie Chan/Sammo Hung movies and a 5 film box set I'm getting for my birthday in a few days! Oh and I have Tombs of the Blind Dead in the post to me which might arrive tomorrow.

Not bought anything for ages and now loads of things coming all at once

Tell me about it.

I'd quite like a 101 sale in a couple of weeks. Same goes for an 88 Films sale.

Urban Legend is fun. I also like the second one - there's a great death scene at a window in it - but the third film is, for want of a better word, crap.

That’s the one, definitely a Humph piece, I’d recognise that style anywhere

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 27th April 2021 02:01 PM

Have you watched it?

It's a great film, i hadn't seen it until i watched it Saturday night, the feature length doc on the making of it is fascinating too.

I haven't watched the VIPCO feature. Think i'll save that for another time later in the year.

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 27th April 2021 05:45 PM

I've seen it many times mate.Great wee film.

I had the VS BD-Not watched the 101 (probably identical) but it was a revelation after decades of Vipco vhs and Vipco 'dvd-vhs' transfers!

Yeah the feature length doc was done by VS on the 101 release so a straight port. The transfer is excellent.

Just need to get the courage to buy Pledge Night now.

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 27th April 2021 06:02 PM

Now Dem,here's a warning in the form of a public information film......adopts best Donald Pleasance voice.....

I am the spirit of dark and lonely high definition.
Ready to trap the unwary, the fool, the addict.
Hmv is the kind of place you'd expect to find me.
But no one expects to spend so much.It just seems ordinary.
But that void is deep especially on the pocket.
The slope is slippery.
The addicts are easy, but the newcomers are easier still.
His marriage is weak.I't'll never take his spending.
Only a fool would ignore his bank statement, but there's one born every minute.
Under collecting there are traps...boxsets...2 for one...buy one get one free...
It's the perfect place to start a divorce.
Sensible spenders.I have no power over them.
I'll be back......

You must have a helluva backlog in dual formats do you not, Dem?

marvinnashsear 27th April 2021 09:18 PM

Was the making of Spookies a bit jittery on anybody else's player? Film and Vipco doc look fine.

Seemed to be the whole way through. Maybe jittery is the wrong word, it's not unwatchable at all, it just doesn't seem as smooth as it should.

Yes. I quite like it myself. Not a bad little war movie.

Yes, i have it.

I'd say it was merely okay. There's a lot of running around the woods with kids rather than any decent war action.

I have the 101 release and was disappointed with the film.

It's a long time since I saw it but isn't this the one in the desert which reuses a lot of footage from Tobruk? It's not imo very good...

The running around with kids in the woods sounds more like Hornets' Nest starring Rock Hudson... and he was in Tobruk too!

...then again my memory is getting terrible nowadays

Sorry, getting my crap 101 war films mixed up. Yes, you are right, Rob. Play Dirty was even worse.

Tobruk itself isn't a fave of mine. My dad used to love it but i've seen it a couple of times and don't think it comes close to the top tier of WWII films.

Well no one has managed to sell Play Dirty to me. Even at £5.99.

RAID ON ROMMEL with Richard Burton is the one that reuses footage from TOBRUK, so you're barking up the wrong tree there !. PLAY DIRTY does not reuse any stock footage from previous movies AFAIK.

RAID ON ROMMEL:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0067650/

PLAY DIRTY:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0063443/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_3

There are no woods, in the desert set PLAY DIRTY !. JUst some decent performances from the likes of Michael Caine & Nigel Davenport. I like it myself, but each to their own.
