Bought them both today.

Have to say that I haven't been disappointed with any of these AGFA release, probably because I buy them knowing exactly what i'm going to get. Case in point, I watched Barry J. Gillis' Things on The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs, so know exactly what to expect with Wicked World.

Oh, WW is a world away from Things ... visually
I await your review keenly .....

Ok, I did give it a quick spin, and yes, it is visually superior (but that's not saying a lot [emoji23])

Demoncrat 19th August 2022 11:09 PM

Hence the emphasis ;)

I have a few of Gillis' things now. They are all their own genre imho.:rolleyes:

NEW TO THE BLACK LABEL

101 Films presents Ghostwatch (1992), a BBC production that terrified Britain on 31st October 1992, released on Blu-ray for the first time.

Despite being part of BBC Drama's Screen One series, the presence of trusted presenters, along with the quality of the production, convinced thousands of people that the events depicted on screen were genuine, and taking place live.

Title 028 on the 101 Films Black Label, this 30th anniversary edition includes a new documentary on the making of Ghostwatch, a new commentary, limited edition packaging featuring newly commissioned artwork, a booklet with new writing on the film and more.

An inspiration to a generation of filmmakers, and years ahead of the profusion of found footage movies that would follow, Ghostwatch is regarded as a classic of the genre and remains as relevant, as terrifying, and as inspirational today.

GHOSTWATCH

Released 31st October 2022

Sarah Greene and Craig Charles report from a reputedly haunted London home for the outside broadcast, while Michael Parkinson and Mike Smith stay in the warmth and "safety" of a BBC studio. The Early family are allegedly being harassed by the ghost 'Pipes', so named as his banging and crashing were initially attributed to bad plumbing. After a deliberately slow start the tension gradually builds, culminating in a terrifying crescendo. Although entirely fictional, the masterly combination of great scripting, intuitive direction and perfect casting made the supernatural pastiche appear frighteningly real.

SPECIAL FEATURES
• ‘Do You Believe In Ghosts?’, a brand new 30th anniversary documentary on the Ghostwatch phenomenon • Commentary with film historians Shellie McMurdo and Stella Gaynor • Commentary with writer Stephen Volk, producer Ruth Baumgarten and director Lesley Manning • Shooting Reality by Lesley Manning • Limited Edition Booklet: Includes ‘Extra Sensory Perception Management’ by Sarah Appleton, ‘Ghostwatch – As it Happened’ by Tim Murray and short story ‘31/10’ by Ghostwatch writer Stephen Volk • Reproduced script, annotated by director Lesley Manning • Set of six art cards • Newly commissioned artwork

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 24th August 2022 04:45 PM

Perhaps shamefully, I've never seen Ghost Watch, so that looks like a stellar release to rectify that and provide me with some new viewing for Halloween.

nicholasrope 24th August 2022 04:57 PM

I know it probably doesn't make a difference but it's released on the same day as Top Gun: Maverick

101 Films presents the ‘Bob Clark: Horror Collection’, Featuring the director’s highly influential horrors of the early 1970s, brought together for the first time. Though he would achieve wider success in the 1980s with hit comedies such as Porky’s (1981) and A Christmas Story (1983), Clark’s run of three horror movies a decade earlier — low budget horror-comedy ‘Children Shouldn’t Play with Dead Things’ (1972), chilling Vietnam War critique 'Deathdream' (AKA Dead of Night) (1974) and genre-defining slasher masterpiece 'Black Christmas' (1974) — ensure his legacy as a master of the horror genre.

What horrendous artwork.

Shouldn't have put Black Christmas in this set seeing as most of us will already own the 101 release.

I hope they will release the other two separately because I don't want to buy yet another copy of Black Christmas, one I already had before buying the Black Label release.

Agreed, and Dead of Night (I refuse to call it by that other title) is superfluous to me also as I have the Blue Underground release. Coincidentally, I watched this again last night and it's such an underrated little chiller. Genuinely creepy, surprisingly violent and with a truly original, disturbing (political?) ending.

Anyway, I'll hold out for a standalone Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things release.

Same, I’ve already got 2 copies and I don’t need 3 of them haha!

will graham 2nd March 2023 04:01 PM

I might get depending on how long the documentary on bob Clark documentary is and if it also covers his non horror work

peter alex 2nd March 2023 05:52 PM

it's the same one that's on the Children shouldn't play with dead things release and it's from VCI and it's 72 minutes a shame that they could not get the special features from the third disc from the children shouldn't film and it's also a shame the did not get the special features from the us release of deathdream and as for black christmas there is more on the us release than there is on the uk version

The only one I have is Effects which has a George Romero connection and features Tom Savini in an acting role. It's a strangely plotted and constructed movie, about the making of a snuff film. It has it's disturbing moments.

The transfer is quite ropey as it's taken from the only known surviving print but perhaps appropriate given subject matter.

I recommend it. For a tenner it's worth a blind buy and you can always get some of your money back on ebay if you don't like it.

I've also seen Dr. Humpp which is terrible but has stacks of sixties saggy tits in it  Come to think of it I might get that one just to see if I was hallucinating the first time I saw it ;)

Demdike@Cult Labs 17th April 2023 04:10 PM

What i've read about them really puts me off.

Unfinished films, awful looking prints, porn minus any porn

Seems pointless to me. All the films they could have got from Vinegar Syndrome they get these.

Demoncrat 17th April 2023 05:39 PM

Of the few I've seen, they are all .... unique .... cough. If you want to pretend to be RLM in your own house, Wicked World. BEWARE, it is not an easy watch (not graphic, just off kilter ahem). Looking at the selection, I wish I had some spare £ myself ahem, as that Run Coyote Run did make me cry with the laughter (not a comedy).
:behindsofa:

Nordicdusk 17th April 2023 05:42 PM

Yeah doing my research I'm not convinced honestly.

J Harker 17th April 2023 06:48 PM

I want to say they all look crap but to be honest I've not been interested enough to actually investigate properly. Because they all look crap....bit of a paradox.

Yes, Chris Lee is in one scene.

I watched this recently. It’s available to stream for free (with ads) on Plex. I quite liked it, but the one thing I remember is that there wasn’t a single meat-cleaver killing! Haha [emoji23]

That's a little like Hatchet for the Honeymoon which, perhaps ironically, features a meat cleaver and not the titular weapon.

I'm guessing that's the only time in it's history that Meatcleaver Massacre has been likened to Mario Bava.
