I actually enjoyed it, was impressed with what they were able to achieve at the time for that budget.

But yeah, not exactly something that's going to look better on blu ray.

I'll no doubt buy it again.

I've not seen it since the days of magnetic tape.....

In 2022 101 Films is bringing the American Genre Film Archive (AGFA) to the UK.

Founded in 2009, AGFA exists to preserve the legacy of genre movies, and from January some of the weirdest and wildest films ever committed to celluloid will be released on Blu-ray on this side of the Atlantic for the first time.

The first releases in the range will be the sleazy and terrifying EFFECTS (1980) and exploitation legend Renee Harmon’s LADY STREET FIGHTER (1981), both released on 10th January 2022.

AGFA exists to preserve the legacy of genre movies, and from January some of the weirdest and wildest films ever committed to celluloid will be released on Blu-ray and digital on this side of the Atlantic for the first time"

One of the first releases in the range will be the sleazy and terrifying 'EFFECTS' (1980) - pre-order available from 101 Films direct - £15:00

Release date: January 10

"Part of the American Genre Film Archive range. The initial run comes with Limited Edition 'O-ring' packaging.

Cobbled together with loose change by George Romero's friends, EFFECTS is a mesmerizing D.I.Y. frightmare that no one talks about, but everyone should. A group of coked-up filmmakers -- including Tom "DAWN OF THE DEAD" Savini, Joe "DAY OF THE DEAD" Pilato, and John "TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE: THE MOVIE" Harrison -- gather in Pittsburgh to make a slasher. As filming begins and "accidents" happen, it's clear that something isn't right. EFFECTS is a meta-enhanced takedown on the philosophy of horror that doubles as a sleazy and terrifying movie on its own."

Special features:
  • 4K scan from the only 35mm theatrical print in existence!
  • Archival commentary track with John Harrison, Dusty Nelson, and Pasquale Buba
  • UBU short film
  • BEASTIE short film
  • AFTER EFFECTS documentary with optional commentary track
  • Liner notes by Joseph A. Ziemba of AGFA and Bleeding Skull!

I saw this, not sure how well these will sell in the UK, they're very niche and have been available to buy from Vinegar Syndrome for some time. It's good though, to see the variety on the UK shelves, I wonder if we'll get Bat Pussy or The Zodiac Killer

Must admit i have no interest in either title.

I have Effects but not watched it. I was going to get The Zodiac Killer in the next sale but will have to hold off now. I'm also a bit surprised as I expect most of these will need submitting to the BBFC for their usual extortionate fee. As Justin says they are very niche so I can't see them selling many.

If they put the The Sword and The Claw I will buy it.

TBH, would they do worse than something like Tammy And The T-Rex (For example)

Vinegar Syndrome are titles that are ordered via specialist websites whereas these can be got from places like HMV, Amazon...etc.

Saw the trailers, Effects interests me but not sure about Lady Street Fighter but I'm hoping that they change the cover art. They are not exactly the best in my opinion.
