I was expecting it on Blu-ray when Legend came out in 2015 but it never happened - a total missed opportunity - I prefer it to the Hardy film too.

Hardy is great as both but you have ace support in the 1990 film from the likes of Billie Whitelaw and Steven Berkoff -the latter's performance is far more memorable than that of his counterpart in the Hardy version.

Yeah Bell and Berkoff were superb, but the Kemps can't hold a torch to Hardy's performance.

'The Green Man' - Pre-order available at Amazon UK - Blu-Ray - £14.99, DVD - £12.00

Release date: May 18th

"STUDIOCANAL announce the release of a newly restored version of the classic British black comedy, The Green Man, as part of the Vintage Classics collection.

Starring the scintillating Alastair Sim (A Christmas Carol, School for Scoundrels), directed by Robert Day (The Avengers) and with a BAFTA nominated screenplay by Sidney Gilliat and Frank Launder (The Lady Vanishes), this enormously entertaining farce originally released in 1956, will be available to own on DVD, Blu-Ray and Digital on May 18.

Supporting Sim are an exemplarity cast of the era that includes George Cole (The Happiest Days of Your Life), Terry-Thomas (School for Scoundrels), Jill Adams (Private’s Progress) and Raymond Huntley (Night Train to Munich). A farce that ticks all the genre’s boxes (mistaken identities, compromising positions, much panicking and slamming of doors), the film makes an interesting companion piece to Ealing’s The Ladykillers (1955).

Alastair Sim plays Hawkins, a timid watchmaker with a part time job – he is also a professional assassin who bumps off the people we love to hate. But when the philandering MP Sir Gregory Upshott (Raymond Huntley) is the intended target, vacuum cleaner salesman William Blake (George Cole) and Hawkins’ new neighbour Ann Vincent (Jill Adams) repeatedly get in the way. As the time of the assassination draws ever closer and Hawkins tracks his victim to a dilapidated seaside hotel called the Green Man, the laughs and the tension steadily rise to a brilliant climax.

Looking better than ever before thanks to the new restoration and bundled with brand new bonus content, The Green Man is a welcome addition to the Vintage Classics collection.

For the 2020 restoration of The Green Man, Studiocanal went back to the original camera negative where possible and alternative sources where severe damage that could not be repaired was encountered. These elements were scanned at 4K resolution in 10bit and then restored in 4k."

Special features:
  • NEW Alastair Sim and The Green Man: Interview Stephen Fry
  • NEW Interview with cultural historian Matthew Sweet
  • Those British Faces: Alastair Sim
  • Stills gallery

someone needs to tell SC that it is no longer a requirement to have the age rating on the spine...

it's great that SC are restoring their back catalogue but five discs seems a bit excessive! this not a film i'd shell out a lot for so looking forward to a blu only release.

Two of those discs could be the Queen soundtrack and the Mike Hodges score?

More info for 'Flash Gordon':

Pre-order available at Amazon UK for 5 Disc Blu-Ray - £49:99, Standard Blu-Ray - £15:00 and Standard DVD - £12:00

"StudioCanal have confirmed the upcoming re-release of Flash Gordon for DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Blu-ray on 3rd August.

For the new 40th Anniversary 4k restoration, Flash Gordon was scanned from the original 35mm negative to produce 4K files. Over 500 hours of manual restoration repaired serious damage that included image instability, scratches and intermittent flicker. The sound was scanned from the original track negative and underwent restoration to improve issues ranging from audio drop-outs throughout the feature and during reel changes, digital clicks and optical distortion. The film was colour graded for theatrical, home entertainment and 4K HDR release, using previous digital releases and 35mm prints as a reference. In line with the Director’s vision and the original 35mm cinema release, VFX work was applied to remove the strings in all scenes where visible. This restoration was approved by Director Mike Hodges in May 2020, and will include the first 4K HDR Dolby Vision master of Flash Gordon
