"“It’s time to feed the baby.” Some exciting news from Kino Lorber Studio Classics – later this year, they’ll be giving Alain Robak’s French splatter classic BABY BLOOD (1990) its Blu debut! Hoping to boost attendance with the purchase of a new leopard, a traveling carnival is dismayed to find its freshest attraction deceased the next morning. However, the cat was host to a peculiar parasite, one that frees itself only to slither its way into the uterus of abused circus wife Yanka. Patiently gestating, the creature gives her the confidence to leave – but it also needs fresh blood to survive. As the pair develop a bond, Yanka wonders how far she’ll go to ensure her baby’s well-being. And what exactly is growing inside of her? With its inquisitive, darkly humorous fetus (reportedly voiced by fan Gary Oldman in the English version) and paint-the-walls-red bloodshed, BABY BLOOD was a gleefully gruesome breath of fresh air, replete with arterial sprays, crushed skulls and bodies exploded via excessive aeration. Seemingly coming out of nowhere when it hit tape (slightly edited) as THE EVIL WITHIN, the film managed to find some traction with gorehounds, but never quite grew the cult it deserved – even when Anchor Bay issued it on DVD in 2006. Now years later, Kino have acquired the title as part of their massive deal with StudioCanal; hopefully its HD upgrade will attract a larger audience willing to embraces its feral charms."

I’d imagine some of them (especially the world cinema classics (by big directors like Melville and Tavernier) would be titles that are undergoing restoration for release in the UK by Studiocanal itself. Last edited by Paul@TheOverlook; 2nd April 2019 at 05:35 AM. |
