To mark what would have been Ray Harryhausen's 98th birthday, Powerhouse is offering all three Indicator Harryhausen boxes at a combined discount - the offer expiring at midnight on Sunday (UK time) or when they run out of The Sinbad Trilogy, whichever's soonest.

I saw that on fb. I would have probably gone for that had I not recently forked out £42.99 for the Sinbad set.

it might be down to differences in the way the times were noted down but based on those timings it doesn't look like anything has been reinstated besides the mongoose/snake fight.
Oh ye of little faith!

Full specs announced for volume 3:

The Camp on Blood Island

Yesterday's Enemy

The Stranglers of Bombay

The Terror of the Tongs

It's as close as we could get to the uncut version. Sadly, the original BBFC files no longer survive, so we don't have the fine detail of their decisions any more (especially the now unanswerable question of how the hell did it get an A certificate?) but it seems that they requested three comparatively trivial-looking cuts (for instance, a close-up of Captain Connaught-Smith being dragged by a horse after his murder) - but otherwise everything got through intact.

So what we've done is take the UK version (with the five cutaways to Marie Devereux appearing aroused by the violence and the longer alleyway scene) and the US version (with an extra close-up of arm-slitting) and fused them together. We stress on the disc that this isn't historically authentic, and neither can it be accurately described as 'uncut', but it's very unlikely that a longer version is possible to assemble now - the three offcuts are missing believed destroyed decades ago.

(Sadly, it looks as though the censored footage from The Terror of the Tongs suffered that fate - we tried every avenue we could think of but drew a blank, and every Hammer expert we spoke to wished us luck but said they were convinced that the footage no longer exists. And I'm afraid that's my conclusion too.)

Yesterday's Enemy is also getting two versions: the more familiar US cut and the rarer and swearier British one.

Although, that said, the US one has a larger vocabulary - it goes "basket", "blighters", "swine" and, incongruously, "gentlemen", whereas the British version just goes "bastard", "bastards", "bastards" and "bastards".

nice one Michael

if there is more room for horror on your roster would you guys consider releasing a bit daftness from David Warner's eclectic career? as you can see a HD master exists.

Can someone with the Blu ray of FIRST MEN IN THE MOON confirm that it is uncut.
The scene which is missing from some DVD's and TV showings is the killing and stripping of the Mooncalf by the Selenites. Possibly to give a U cert.

Cheers

According to DVD Compare, the Powerhouse Blu-Ray release of 'First Men In The Moon' is uncut, with a run time of 103.02 minutes, which is pretty much the same as the American Twilight Time release (No cuts 103:03) and the German Koch Media release (No cuts 103:00)

Rewind @ www.dvdcompare.net - First Men in the Moon AKA H.G. Wells’ First Men in the Moon (Blu-ray) (1964)
