When you say standard do you mean individual releases?

Yes separate releases. The disc content will be the same.

Good. Some of the films i'm not too bothered about upgrading when the time comes.

Not quite - The Damned will be losing its second disc, containing the shorter British theatrical cut. But it’s more of a historical curiosity than anything essential, and there’s (deliberately) nothing else on that disc, so you still get all the other extras.

Hey all, does anyone have the early Indicator John Carpenter films (Vampires, Ghosts of Mars, Christine). Are they any good? Been thinking about a dvd upgrade but not sure if the discs are worth it. Ghosts and Christine are ok, but I've always found Vampires annoying, are the extras/print etc worthwhile?

I have Christine and Vampires. Both discs are superb in terms of transfer and extras but if one is merely ok and the other is annoying then i wouldn't bother personally.

All the transfers are immaculate.

My personal feelings about the movies:

Christine: I disagree, I think its an excellent movie. It effectively whittles down King's good but overlong novel down to its bare essentials. Keith Gordon also gives one of the standout horror performances of the 80s.

Vampires: Not as good and I didn't like it much on first viewing back when it was released to cinemas, but now I find it a really entertaining popcorn movie, with some neat visuals and good action scenes and James Woods is always a blast.

Ghosts of Mars: Is for me one of Carpenter's weakest. The leads in particular seem miscast and the whole thing comes across as bit meh.

Ghosts of Mars and Vampires are worth buying for the 2 part interview with Carpenter live on stage at the NFT for The Guardian (if I remember that correctly).

I did enjoy all three films but for me Vampires is the weakest of the bunch. I enjoy Ghosts of Mars, it's a nice space version of Assault on Precinct 13, don't get me wrong it's trashy with not very good (to say the least) dialogue but it's still fun!

Christine is one of those horror films that doesn't feel like a horror film, more of a nostalgia trip, because of the soundtrack it is a feel good film for me, i can just watch it and chill out, like American Graffiti or something, It has it 's flaws but is just a smooth chilled ride, and the car is still my ultimate automobile, when it repairs itself i'm just buzzin'.
