When you get to my age, and your hearing isn't perfect, subtitles ARE a special feature!

For me, a lot of films are unwatchable because I can't hear what is being said
Demoncrat and Rob4 like this.

Me too. I'm ploughing through The Expanse and its been subtitles all the way for me. It's not just age either; all the family have difficulty with the dialogue. Also modern BBC drama seems to take mumbling to extremes. It's not even like it makes things extra realistic - I don't know anyone who communicates by mumbling, except my son when he doesn't want to do his homework...

Should be standard on digital media anyway, but it’s not exactly a ‘special feature’ as in extras.

it should be, yes, but believe me - there are an awful lot of DVD's and Blu-rays that don't have them

A lot of modern movies have uneven sound mixing. I agree, lots of inaudable dialogue.
