I thought SS was deserving of its own thread. They release mainly East European films with a particular interest in the Czech New Wave, some of which stray into the genres we like.

And one of their latest is a horror film that sounds interesting:

Laurin
A film by Robert Sigl
Germany/Hungary, 1988

Evoking Valerie and Her Week of Wonders, The Company of Wolves and the lurid cinema of Italian maestros Mario Bava and Dario Argento, Robert Sigl’s richly atmospheric, gloriously morbid and menacing Gothic chiller still yet creates a dark coming-of-age tale all its own.

With wonderful set and costume design, and superb cinematography by Nyika Jancsó, Laurin is a debut feature of remarkable confidence, style and assurance.

I have a mate who adores Karol Zeman's work.

I have Valerie and Her Week of Wonders, Mother Joan of the Angels, Morgiana and Witchhammer from Second Run.

All well worth a watch. Valerie and Witchhammer were both excellent.

I did get The Cremator but really didn't get on with it so sold it.

Hopefully Three Wishes for Cinderella will arrive on Blu at some stage.

I've heard of Laurin from somewhere previously. Can't for the life of my say where though. It sounds good.

Any you recommend.

Laurin was at some point going to be released by Redemption back in the early VHS days. I'm not sure it ever was.

I saw it when I picked it up, remember thinking it was interesting and Macabre but it didn't stick with me or was particularly memorable, might need to give it another watch.

You've pretty much seen all the ones I have and a couple more.

I really enjoyed The Cremator although I accept it won't be to everyone's taste. I thought the lead character was incredibly disturbing in a way that I don't think has ever been captured in a western film and Tod Browning would be impressed by that weird fairground scene.

Vampir Cuadecuc is only really of interest to die-hard Chris Lee fans. It has an unique look but I found my interest wandering for most of it.

Baron Prasil is the best version of the Baron Munchausen stories I have seen. Delightful. Made me feel like a kid again.

I'm planning on picking up Ikarie XB 1, Beauty and the Beast and Laurin at some point.
