I'm really hoping there will be an uncut UK one. I had the US Paramount and slept on the Anolis until it was well out of print.

Their Dracula POD SE was about £30 so I'd like to avoid paying that if possible!

I watched Legend of the Seven Golden Vampires today - still not sure whether I like this one or not...

A failiure in many respects. Cushing is too old, they found the worst Dracula possible, the Shaw Brothers link up never really gets off the ground as their characters have no screen time to establish themselves.

The worst of the late Hammer entries.

It had so much potential... Hammer + Shaw Bros. + Cushing... but as you say, it never really gets going.

Agree on John Forbes-Robertson's portrayal of Dracula too; absolutely abysmal.

I kicked off a series on the blog, reviewing the 21 films in the Hammer box. In between I'm going drop in some of my own personal selections, one of which is gonna be Legend of the Seven Golden Vampires. And Shatter. I've heard it's pretty terrible...

Legend may be weak in regards to poor examples of it's parts but personally as a whole, I still think it's bags of fun to watch.

Speaking of ... And The Monster From Hell I thought the Dutch Green Cow edition was uncut? Either way, it's a nice looking transfer imho, and one of my favourite Hammers.

As for Seven Golden Vampires, I have a big soft spot for it, mainly (if I'm being honest with myself!) due to pure nostalgia! If I was coming to it now, I might be a bit less enthusiastic about it, as most of the above criticisms are perfectly valid.

Hmm I think people knock Hammer's 70s output too readily. The company still made incredibly entertaining films. The plots may have become hackneyed, a lack of originality rather than quality, and many films indulged in a bit of wanton nudity to attract the male viewer and upped the blood-letting a little. But despite all this, or because of it they were still entertaining films, often with good cinematography/direction and I think TO THE DEVIL A DAUGHTER was Hammer bowing out on a high note.
