Maybe some are of the opinion where you can never have too many balls.

I actually only bought the standard DVD set with lenticular cover.

For me it's more the book. I'm not terribly bothered about the new ball, particularly if it's as naff as has been reported. If I wait for the standard set I'll miss out on the book.

Yeah, the loss of the book was the only thing that made me hover a little over the cancellation button.

I didn't want the cheap plastic ball when it was one of the packaging options with the DVD release, so I went with the Digipack. I didn't want a sphere then, and I don't want one now.
