Never say never, but they'd obviously have released it years ago if it was actually available to them for licensing - it's hard to think of another title that's been more frequently requested.

As far as I'm aware, the UK rights are with StudioCanal, and I suspect a UK BD will most likely come from them directly. I'm not sure why they're taking forever, but they took something like six years to release Masque of the Red Death after turning down Arrow's request to sublicense it as a Corman/Poe box-set exclusive - I assumed at the time that the refusal meant that it was imminent.

Studio Canal seems to have finally pulled their finger out when it comes to HD and they have been on a releasing frenzy lately which I'm all for. Do they still have Near Dark? Another film that is calling for a modern remaster.

Side note, I've never seen The Hitcher, I get the feeling it might have been over hyped at this point

According to their current catalogue, they do indeed.

I haven't seen it since the 1980s (and have only ever seen it on the big screen - video releases back then would have been panned and scanned, and I recall this making particularly good use of the 2.35:1 frame), but I thought it was superb and can imagine it standing up very well.

Yeah, The Hitcher is up there with the very best of 80s movies.

Studio Canal appear to be doing a few tentpole 4K restorations every year. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before the get around to The Hitcher and Near Dark.

I think the The Howling is high on their list of priorities at the moment though.

The Hitcher is a beautiful film the soundtrack is so haunting the location makes you feel alone the whole thing just comes together perfectly to make you feel exactly the way Jim feels as he is stalked across the desert.

Arrow will be announcing a 4K UHD of Bird With Crystal Plumage in a bit. Late June release date. I'll order direct from the arrow shop.

I forgot it was actually an Arrow announcement day with all this talk of Studio Canal and The Hitcher...
