I suspect Suzi may have been slightly sarcastic with the 'Prepare to be outraged' comment.

However, that seems like an awful lot of work which makes me glad I didn't buy the Criterion release.

Oh, I know - but I thought I'd spell out exactly what the reason for this specific delay was, as it's a good one. Or rather, I could have asked the Italian rightsholders to simply send over the master that we were expecting, but it was immediately clear to me that the textless version offered significant opportunities for improvement, and it would have been a shame not to grab them.

Put it like this: I'm a lot more familiar with the documentary now than I was a fortnight ago! First of all, I had to go through it shot by shot transcribing all of the text and the timings, and then had to think about whether we simply wanted to copy how it was done on the Criterion disc or whether we could improve on it - and quite a lot of the time I was able to devise clear improvements, particularly with regard to reducing the number of subtitles by incorporating translations into the captions themselves.

(The downside is that Arrow's version of the doc is no longer 100% Italian friendly, but that was the case from the moment we removed the Italian subtitles. But it's still mostly Italian-friendly...)

I guess the next time you see the documentary will be too soon!

I see Arrow have lowered the quantity of the limited edition Witnail set. Only 250 of each now. Design A is already gone, and the others probably won't last long. Wonder if they did it because they hadn't sold a lot of the others, especially C & D.

"***Withnail and I Update - Important pre-order info***
We have reduced our quantity of the limited edition because we can only print as many as we take orders for by the 15th September, so this set is more limited by time than number. So the orders we have received as of the 15th of September will be how many each of the four options is limited by. For instance, if orders stopped now, Option 3 would be limited to 83 copies and Option 2 limited to 89 and so on.

We decided to bring the numbers down to 250 for each as we didn’t want there to be a wild difference between each version, therefore one might seem more or less limited than another.

If you are still planning to pick up a copy of the personalised boxset head over to withnailfilm.com and make sure to place your pre-order before September 15th (or whilst stocks remain)."

Roughly translated as :Shit, this wasn't as popular as we'd hoped.

Exactly the way I read it. Going to take them a while to sell the 2000 non-limited too I reckon. And if other releases are anything to go by, they won't release a standard version until the box sets sell out. Oh dear.

I'm guessing the price has put a lot of people off too.

Yeah – all but hard-core fans. I also think Arrow were a little overly ambitious with the cumulative number of units available across all four designs.
