I've only watched it once, but thought it was bonkers and enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. It's not quite as peculiar as Hausu but, with a murder mystery storyline, musical numbers and animated sequences, it's anything but dull!

Remember the big song and dance thing at the end of Zatoichi? Ruined an otherwise brilliant film for me. And I'm expecting something like that?

I think the difference is the whole comic tone of Katakuris. If the rest of the film was serious i'd agree, but the whole thing is pretty tongue in cheek.
