It's obviously a medical themed film. 'Scanners' and 'Flatliners' have all been suggested, but I'm wondering 'Coma' or 'Visiting Hours'

That reminds me of the background to the old UK pre-cert of Terminal Choice.

I'd say your suggestions were much more likely Suzi.

Copies of Scanners 1 (as well as Texas Chainsaw) have been drying up so looks like Second Sight have lost rights to them.
