The Hong Kong DVD Thread I know many people buy HK dvd's of Western movies but I mainly buy HK Films and occasionally a Japanese one (English subs). As with Japanese dvd's I really like the covers. The look of the menus and the typically wrecked English subs also provide me with the full HK movie experience. ;) Here's some from my collection, curious about other member's collections. ;) http://dv1.us/p1/961/070961-d0.jpg http://c.dv1.us/p1/977/048977-d0.jpg http://c.dv1.us/p1/527/083527-d0.jpg http://a.dv1.us/p1/803/114803-d0.jpg http://b.dv1.us/p1/385/033385-d0.jpg http://c.dv1.us/p1/027/074027-d0.jpg http://a.dv1.us/p1/624/028624-d0.jpg http://dv1.us/p1/551/051551-d0.jpg |
I'd really love to see a lot more HK films, I've only owned/watched a few because of my Jackie Chan Collection. What would you say are 'MUST WATCH' films? Doesn't matter what genre. |
Do I have to include films like The Killer,A Better Tomorrow and Hard Boiled? ;) |

Maybe start with those then? ;) I'd start with A Better Tomorrow then The Killer and then Hard Boiled. Some other suggestions to start you off: Encounter of the Spooky Kind (1980) Zu: Warriors of the Magic Mountain (1983) Mr. Vampire (1985) Yes, Madam! (1985) Royal Warriors (In the Line of Duty) (1986) A Chinese Ghost Story (1987) Black Cat (1991) Story of Ricky (1991) Naked Killer (1992) Swordsman 2 (1992) The East Is Red (1993) The Heroic Trio (1993) Black Mask (1996) Btw this is like Imdb but about Chinese film only: google hkmdb |

Great thread you got here. Back in the VHS days I spent every spare dime on HK films. All ordered from HK. Couldn't get enough of em. Sadly I gave away all my VHS when DVDs came around.:( Looking back, I wish I could've found some place to store them. The first DVD I ever bought was Dragon Inn. I have gone to Hong Kong twice on vacation and took empty suitcases with me to be filled with DVDs. Still have not got near as many as I had on VHS. When I get a free minute I will take a photo and post em. |
Ooh,I'd love to see some pics Cap! :) I've still got many HK vhs (mainly US versions but seems these were also made there?). |
I had the HK DVD's of KILLER SNAKES and HUMAN LANTERNS but I sold them before I watched them. http://a.dv1.us/p1/003/029003-d0.jpghttp://a.dv1.us/p1/704/027704-d0.jpg |
