So Eureka have chosen to pre-cut Murders in the Zoo for animal cruelty.

This is very disappointing because if it's the scene I'm thinking about I'm pretty sure the BBFC would have passed it because it's edited in such a way that you can't tell if the real animal was subjected to any cruelty - I suspect it wasn't.

Anyway, for Eureka not to even try to get it through is inexplicable. I can only think that it must be more expensive for the distributor if the BBFC mandates the cuts?

Pity, however it will still be bought. It's a film i've never seen so may not like it much anyway, who knows?

It's odd really. I watched The Blu-ray of The Wild Bunch last night and there's no problem there of watching a scorpion attacked by ants and then being burned alive by children.

For the BBFC, clearly Arachnid Lives (Don't) Matter

The BBFC site says Eureka chose to make cuts in accordance BBFC Guidelines, policy, and the Video Recordings Act, 1984, which applies the standards of the Cinematograph Films (Animals).

I'd say the BBFC told theme they could choose to cut it or not get a certificate.

Would certification come into it as well. The Wild Bunch is an 18 whilst this horror box set will most likely be PG.

Murders in the Zoo has been granted a '12'. That opening scene is one of the gnarliest in pre-code horror and I wouldn't have been surprised if it had tipped it into '15' territory.

I expect the others in the set will be 'PG'.

I realised i've never actually seen it. I was confusing it with other films. Really looking forward to watching it.

Just three left at Amazon / Eureka now.
I hesitated. Now they've all gone.

A considerate forum member might have posted the £10.99 link.
