It's a (very) late period Noir with a very moody atmosphere and a stand-out performance from Harry Belafonte. Admittedly, it's one I haven't seen in a long while but will definitely be picking it up. |
Psychomania 1 Attachment(s) |
Ordered mine direct from their store in the hope I'll get it a bit earlier! |
Animation fans should note that the Quay Brothers blu-ray double disc set is an absolute steal at £10.99 on Amazon at the moment. I'd love if we could some more Jan Svankmajer from BFI in HD :woot: |

More Svankmajer would be great... I'd particularly love to pick up Little Otik in HD. |
PSYCHOMANIA arrived today from the BFI store!:clap: |

I'm going to pick mine up in store on Monday |
2 Attachment(s) Psychomania is one of those rare releases where i'll be keeping the cover as is without reversing. |
1 Attachment(s) Lovely! |
HMV failed to ship Psychomania. 99.9% of the time they get their new releases out for the Saturday to customers so it's a bit of a let down especially as Culloden arrived early and that was a BFI release as well. Still never mind, i'll look forward to watching it next Saturday instead. Plenty more to watch. :woot: |
Curiously Amazon have it down for release on the 26th. I switched orders to HMV to save a couple of pound, but Amazon seem to have price matched them now. HMV haven't shipped mine out yet either. I did get Paths Of Glory and Dead End Drive-In from them today though. I don't plan to watch Psychomania until late October anyway, as part of an October Horror marathon, but I'm excited to finally get it, the review from Mondo Digital was stellar. Release dates seem all over the shop at the minute, Amazon list Satan's Blood for this Monday, HMV for the following Monday. |

Just to confuse things further, Zavvi don't even have it down for release. |
Yeah, but buying from BFI direct is like 88 and Eureka (and formerly Arrow). You get them a couple of weeks earlier.;) It appears the release date has been put back a week on Amazon.... |

Wasn't when I ordered it! What can you get for £4.50 these days? Doesn't even buy you a bowl of porridge....... |
My HMV didn't have Psychomania and Amazon is showing next week :( Has anyone seen it in store? |

BFI recommends 50 late-night classics What to watch at witching hour? These 50 cult recommendations offer flesh, fear, violence and subversion. For a number of reasons, many films just seem suited to being watched late at night. Whether they are gory horror flicks, cult B-movies, sexually explicit dramas or documentaries with adult themes, there’s no hard and fast rule as to what makes a great late-night movie. It’s a safe bet to assume, though, that naked flesh, graphic violence and coarse language are likely to be on the cards in one form or another. Add to that bold shooting styles, unsettling themes and/or brutally frank depictions of confrontational subjects and you’re all set. Here are 50 to watch when the clock has struck midnight.

Won't be long until The Crying Game appears. |
|
Not interested in any of those. This time last year we had the likes of Penda's Fen and Culloden. on the horizon. |
I agree with Dem, BFI isn't very exciting at the moment! Hopefully they're cooking up something good for the summer months. They promised more Flipside! Plus I'm still waiting on the reprint of Privilege to come out, apparently it was 'coming soon'. |

Never heard of Privilege. Except that it's by Peter Watkins. |
Yep, add me as another who's not really feeling very excited by BFI's announcements at the moment. Hopefully plenty more Flipside will be forthcoming this year. |

I've never seen it myself, just seen the trailer and looks great. It's been OOP for a while and someone asked BFI if it was coming out again and they said it would be and have the artwork be in line with the current Flipside releases. |
Hopefully they'll sort out the terribly visible edge enhancement that was on the previous release. |

I already have RSABT on Twilight Time. The Crying Game which is out Monday has been the only interesting release of late. I bought THE GLASS SHIELD the other week....rather boring I'm afraid.... |

I almost bought the Twilight Time blu of Rita, Sue and Bob Too recently. Glad I held off. |
Not exactly BFI related (although it is posted on BFI's site and contains some films that they themselves have released) but Mark Kermode lists 50 Films Every Film Fan Should Watch. I think I've seen just over half of them. Overall it's a fairly interesting and eclectic list. |
I've seen a pathetic 7 films from that list  |
