'Bio Zombie' (1998) - Blu-ray pre-order available from Vinegar Syndrome direct - $24.36

Release date: "Mid-to-late February"

"Invincible and Bee are two wannabe gangsters who spend their days hanging around the mall selling bootleg DVDs. When they aren't committing petty crimes and trying to pick up girls, the two hoodlums run errands for their low level Triad boss. When one of these errands involves them picking up their boss's car from the mechanic, things take a turn for the two delinquents when they accidentally hit a man walking in the middle of the road. Trying to hide their crime, Invincible and Bee bring the man's body to the mall in order to figure out their next move. Little do they know that the man has been infected with an experimental bio-weapon that has turned him into a zombie. When the man's corpse doesn't stay put, it's only a matter of time before the victims start piling up and the mall soon becomes overrun by a zombie horde trapping a group of shoppers inside. Will Invincible and Bee step up to become heroes and save the day or will their slacker nature get the best of them dooming all inside?

Directed by one of Hong Kong's most prominent action directors, Wilson Yip (Ip Man, SPL: Kill Zone), BIO ZOMBIE is a neon-filled zombie comedy bursting at the guts with 90s flare. Featuring a cast of likable characters lead by Jordan Chan (Young and Dangerous) and Sam Lee (Gen-X Cops) as Invincible and Bee, as well as a strong supporting cast featuring Emotion Cheung (The Demon's Baby), Angela Tong (Honour of the Gods), and Suk-Mui Tam (Fist of Legend). Vinegar Syndrome is proud to present this gory slice of 90s nostalgia on Blu-ray for the first time, restored from studio supplied masters."

Special features and specs:
  • Region Free Blu-ray
  • Studio supplied master with additional restoration performed by VS
  • Presented in both the original Cantonese language soundtrack with newly translated English subtitles and a Mandarin language dub track *
  • Brand new commentary track with film historian Frank Djeng

  • Newly translated English subtitles
  • 94 min

  • Cantonese 2.0 Stereo

* Please note: our edition of Bio Zombie is presented with its original Cantonese language track as well as its official Mandarin dub. While we are aware than an English dub was created by a former US distributor, it was not sanctioned, supervised, or approved by the filmmakers and presents a highly inaccurate translation and poor mix.

'Freeway II: Confessions of a Trickbaby' (1999) - 4KUHD pre-order available from Vinegar Syndrome direct - $29.08

Release date: "Mid-to-late March"

"White Girl is a twisted teenage prostitute with a bad attitude and a nasty eating disorder, who's been sent to the slammer for 25 years. Her cellmate, Cyclona, is equally deranged, being a vicious killer. And, as like minds attract, the two are quick to form a truly twisted alliance. When the opportunity arises, White Girl and Cyclona manage to escape from the pen and embark on a non-stop orgy of violence and debauchery, all while hoping to make it across the border into Mexico in order to seek refuge with Cyclona's proxy caretaker, Sister Gomez. However, there's a big hitch in their plans as the good Sister isn't as "she" seems...

Somehow weirder, sleazier, and even more jaw dropping than its predecessor, director Matthew Bright's in-name-only sequel, FREEWAY II: CONFESSIONS OF A TRICKBABY regurgitates onto the screen with an unflinching barrage of gross-out-gags and adept social satire. Starring Natasha Lyonne (But I'm A Cheerleader, TV's Poker Face and Russian Doll) in one of her first, and most controversial, starring roles alongside Vincent Gallo (Buffalo '66), Mar*a Celedonio (Dragstrip Girl), and a rare on-screen appearance from filmmaker John Landis (An American Werewolf in London), Vinegar Syndrome is delighted to present the UHD debut of this demented reimagining of Hansel & Gretel, newly restored in 4K from its 35mm original camera negative, jam packed with extras, and looking so perversely crystal clear you can almost taste the perversion"

'Primal Rage' (1988) - 4KUHD / Blu-Ray combo pre-order available from Vinegar Syndrome direct - $29.08

Release date: "Mid-to-late March"

"The Science Department at a Florida university has been working on a wonder drug for brain injuries but has accidentally created something else: a rage virus capable of turning those infected into mindless killers, complete with superhuman strength. Meanwhile, two student journalists, Chad and Frank, are on the hunt for a story that will land them national attention. After stumbling upon the biology lab responsible for conducting the experiments, and its large stock of test animals, the reporters believe they've landed on a potentially topical subject: inhumane animal testing. Deciding to break in at night to get some exclusive photos, Frank is attacked by a baboon which, unbeknownst to him, has been infected with the virus. Now, with a deadly substance flowing through his body, Frank slowly begins to transform into a bloodthirsty monster in the shell of a man, and it's not long before anyone he encounters starts getting ripped to shreds. But even worse, the virus proves contagious...

Made during the peak of Italy’s production intersection with U.S. horror cinema, Vittorio Rambaldi’s PRIMAL RAGE embodies a distinctly American influenced approach to 80s monster horror while cramming in an array of highly Italian gore set pieces, courtesy of legendary special effects creator and Academy Award winner, Carlo Rambaldi (A Lizard in a Woman’s Skin, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial). 'Mexican Gothic: The Films of Carlos Enrique Taboada' (1987) - Blu-Ray pre-order available from Vinegar Syndrome direct - $35.73

Release date: "Mid-to-late March"

"Bewitched children, revenge seeking spirits and murderous thieves. Revered in his country but criminally under-known outside of it, three of Mexican genre film master Carlos Enrique Taboada's most influential works are collected here for the first time on Blu-ray.

Poison for the Fairies:
When young Flavia arrives at her new school she is quickly befriended by Veronica. What starts out as an innocent friendship turns terrifying when Veronica reveals herself to be a Witch. Unsure of the truth, Flavia enters into a manipulative relationship as Veronica's accomplice as the line between what is real and imagined blurs and leads to a spiral of magic, death, sacrifice and murder!

Darker Than Night:
Ophelia has just learned of the death of her Aunt, whom she had never trusted. In a sinister twist of fate, she has now inherited her Aunt's estate, along with all of its tenants, living and dead. Inviting her three close friends along, Ophelia moves into the gothic house. But shortly after disregarding her Aunt's posthumous requests to care for Bequer, the house cat, their lives are turned upside down as horrors reveal themselves and a supernatural force starts to violently pick off the girls one by one!

Rapina:
Woodcutter Porfirio has always accepted his meager existence, however one day while working in a remote, forested mountain, Porfirio is the sole witness to the crash of a luxury plane. Desperate to escape his circumstances, he seizes the opportunity to loot the wreckage with his neighbor and co-worker, Evodio. But soon, best laid plans lead to treachery and murder…

Few directors other than Taboada have left such a distinct footprint on Mexico's horror genre. These three films, with ample violence, wretched depravity and supernatural evil, adeptly place their horror to Mexican society and culture at large and all have been newly restored in 4K by Vinegar Syndrome from their original 35mm camera negatives!"

As someone pointed out a time ago, why can't a UK based company do a deal with these distributers to get some of these releases.

Dr. Giggles and Primal Rage would be better received than some of the titles we are getting.
