First horror experiences were SALEM'S LOT-anyone remember in the early '80's when the bbc would screen one half one night and the other half the next? Bloody terrified me I was in primary 6 or 7 at the time-went to sleep with a rosary bead for the rest of the school summer holidays Then video exploded-AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON -watched from behind the sofa but as they say, curiosity killed the cat..... Used to get videos from VIDEO AT HOME CATALOGUE available to rent from D E R and radio rentals.....anyone remember them? |

Before the area I gre up in had a real rental store, some guy would drive around in a van full of videos and knock from door-to-door asking if anyone would like to rent a tape! ha. I remember having the stuffing scared out of me by the Outer Limits! There was some nasty red-eyed demon under kids beds who would grab them and pull them under... Jesus, had trouble with bed time for months! ha. |

My first real horror experience was when I was about ten, going into the local video store (Mr. Video!) and seeing all these GARISH and FRIGHTENING looking video covers - particularly the Intervision releases... Covers I remember that scared the crap out of me were CATACLYSM, the Intervision release of CARRIE, INVASION OF THE BLOOD FARMERS, CATHY'S CURSE and SHIVERS... I finally talked my older sister into letting me rent out SHIVERS and MEAN STREETS and my Mum went mental when she a) saw the opening 'acid in the schoolgirl's stomach' scene from SHIVERS and b) heard Harvey Keitel use the 'c' word in MEAN STREETS... Needless to say, it was fair while until I was allowed to choose my own films on a Sunday... |
