Orlando Bloom and Forest Whitaker unite for a slick action-thriller

Two tough detectives, impeccably played by award-winning actors Forest Whitaker and Orlando Bloom, investigate a brutal murder in post-Apartheid South Africa in this gripping, violent, and action-packed thriller.

Key talent:

Forest Whitaker (Academy Award Winner® The Last King Of Scotland)
Orlando Bloom (The Hobbit; The Lords Of The Rings)
Jérôme Salle, Director (The Tourist; Duplicity)

Synopsis:

When a teen girl is discovered brutally murdered in Cape Town’s botanical gardens, Chief of Police Ali Sokhela (Academy Award Winner Forest Whitaker) and cop Brian Epkeen (Orlando Bloom) are tasked with solving the crime. However upon investigating the murder they uncover a sinister synthetic drug ring with a worldwide network, releasing a new illegal substance into the market, which is spiralling out of control. Sokhela and Epkeen are soon placing their own lives in danger in an attempt to end further devastating and disturbing consequences.

You'll Love It Because...

This 2013 Official Cannes Selection opens with an intense sequence of shocking violence and only gets more gripping from that point on!

With a fierce beach-based shootout being a definite high-point, “Zulu” balances exciting action with emotional drama, inspiring Orlando Bloom into a career-best turn - his conflicted cop with a past is worthy of several spin-offs. Which isn’t to diminish Forest Whitaker’s compelling turn - his Chief is the heart of the film, and Whitaker is as mesmerising as ever.

Director Jérôme Salle guides the action with an auteur’s eye, building to an epic climax that needs to be experienced to be believed.

Hot Quote:

“The picture is first-rate, benefiting from the expert combo of Denis Rouden’s vibrant-hued photography and superb location scouting. A stunning helicopter shot of Cape Town announces the film’s sweeping sociological intentions at the outset, and Salle provides fascinating glimpses of the city at every level, from the cluttered shantytowns to the wide-open sand dunes where the climactic action unfolds” Variety

I would want to be called 'Crakers' I would be like Robbie Coltrane (Cracker) but instead of being educated like him I'd be just me. Then as a sidekick i would take a 1970's portrait of 'Robert Mitchum' stapled to an old, used mop head (which would be his hair) and i would do his voice for him, whenever he was addressed by a detective or anyone else for that matter. I would also look at the mop head whilst he was talking, as if i had no idea at all that his voice was coming out of my mouth, i may even nod a little to show approval, maybe even raise an eyebrow as if to suggest Mitchum Mop had a better idea that i currently did.

I'd watch that! Episode 1 is going to be myself and Mitchum investigating a break in at an iceland freezer store where nothing was stolen but things appears to have been returned??? bring on Rod Serling to introduce and we have a TV show! or maybe just real life in a few years when i finally am crackers!

Beta and Max

Tony Beta and Harry Max are two fresh faced cops assigned to confiscate videos that are deemed liable to deprave and corrupt by the DPP.

However, not agreeing with the censorship, the pair take it upon themselves to rent the cut videos and re-record over them with the uncut version, liberating the country of the silly bbfc rules one shop at a time.

My sidekick would be Nicolas cage, as I feel he would bring a lot of shoutiness to the role.

'Quaker & Oates' Detectives who use a non violent way of solving crimes! It would be a franchise lasting one movie! I'm thinking Bruce Willis and Robbie Coltrane!

And the winners are...

It's time to end this competition!

A big thank you to all those who entered. We'd have quite the hard-boiled police force if Cult Labs was a cop squad. But there can only be three winners and those lucky three are...

:first: Rik!

:second: Blinkant!

:third: JoshuaKaitlyn!

Congratulations guys, Zulu is now yours! Let me know if you would prefer a DVD or a Blu-ray of this film...

For those who didn't win, fear not! Zulu is out now on DVD and Blu-ray from Anchor Bay. Highly recommended if you're a fan of similar films to Se7en and Dirty Harry.
