As far as I can remember, one woman who appeared as an extra throughout the entire run would play a guard one week and a prisoner the next. Looked a bit like Joy Westmore (Mrs Pringle). Anyone know who I mean?

Could be. I thought Barrfield was a bigger woman. She appears in 420's Blooper Clip #1 in the episode 37 clip.
