Instrumental V Lyrics theme

Hello All,

Just joined up; loved Prisoner since it was shown on ITV Central, where I watched it sporadically until the last 100 or so episodes, then moved to Granada TV area which was a few years behind so saw it finish again!
I was wondering when the series began/ceased alternating between the instrumental and lyrics versions of the closing theme? And also, am I correct in thinking that in one episode, the closing theme started from the 'On the Inside the Sun still shines' line rather the usual 'roses'.
I have just bought the first 3 dvd sets, just need to get round to watching them!
