I don't think you have to have seen Blade Runner to watch Blade Runner 2049, but it will definitely help with understanding some scenes and giving the film the emotional impact it has when you are invested in the characters.

Also it depends on which version you watch of the first one,Personally I would avoid The Final Cut as it has been tinkered with quite a bit as there is not really a definitive version to watch imo.

Found the 2049 soundtrack on youtube. It seems a bit indifferent to me although I obviously should try experiencing it when it accompanies the actual film. I think that my expectations were quite high as I think that the original film's Vangelis score is fantastic.

I'll have to agree with this statement. The original Blade Runner had such an incredible, almost remarkable score, that what comes after quite literally pales into insignificance. I did enjoy Blade Runner 2049 with the films impressive visual tone, and Roger Deakins highly impressive cinematography. But the score just tried to evoke way too much of the Vangelis' remarkable sound in the first film that I was left somewhat empty with the score to Blade Runner 2049.

Had Vangelis stepped in to do the score to the latest film, the whole complextion and overall tone would've been more moody and atmospheric.

Overall I rate the film 8/10.
