I did buy the Stallone version this week though.

In my opinion the only good things about the Stallone one is the design and the cursed earth section, oh and 'Max von Sydow'.
It just bugs me out the fact that he removes his helmet for most of the film.
I'm not a mega fan but the Dredd i read in the comics was a hard ass personified by always wearing his helmet and a constant gruff manner.
The new one seems much closer to the character as i know it, it's well made and has some good action scenes. The only problem is the story is pretty slight and doesn't take in much of the actual mythos of Mega City One.
Apparently this was due to budget but a sequel featuring Judge Death would be amazing.
I would Recommend the new version over the old any day of the week.

I have, and I absolutely loved it. It's a slow burn surreal little head-trip of a film with some gorgeous cinematography. A hard film to recommend though as it's something that's either going to captivate you or (potentially) bore you depending on your temperament. I was extremely impressed though and it is amongst my favourite films of the last few years.
