I'm wondering in regards to the merits of making the list Sci-Fi and Fantasy, considering there is often quite a bit of cross-over. between genres...

...feel free to stone me to death if desired.

Fantasy should be a separate thread, it's quite the opposite of sci-fi.

Often hard to define though in its own right I find.

I do get your point though, and we're probably better not over-complicating things.

Sci-fi looks toward the future, with possibilities in science and technology. Fantasy is Lord of the Rings crap with magic and goblins (you can tell I'm not a fan lol).

What's sometimes hard to define is when a film with sci-fi elements is a sci-fi or not, I've noticed in these lists loads of films that aren't sci-fi outright.

Your comment about The Lord of the Rings is nearly ass offensive as putting Robocop at 61 on your list.

Haha, in fairness I always say Lord of the Rings is good but just not for me, I'm not into the fantasy genre at all
Vipp likes this.

I agree in not over complicating things, each to their own, and if you think one film is not sci-fi and someone else does, then apart from 'stonning them to death' they are not likely to change their minds and that is what makes this site great for me! For example, if somebody goes back in time or across dimensions, using science and technology, in a mutts nuts of a space ship and ends up in a troll and dragon infested world where does this sit? Can anyone think of a movie like this and what is it classed as if so?

Agree. Technically Star wars is fantasy. Also its possible to list stuff technically sci-fi. For example I listed Werner Herzogs Wide blue Yonder which is a sci-fi despite being Brad dourif turning up at a bunch of places and talking.
