Star Wars was exactly what I was thinking about when I drew the Sci-Fi/Fantasy parallels.

There are also dystopian or surrealistic fantasies such as Welle's The Trial and Has' The Hourglass Sanatorium (the latter being one of my all time favourites) which I'm uncertain whether to include in the list or not at present.

I would say it would come down to one question.

Can you justify its inclusion?

I would argue that star wars has a lot of the tropes of sci-fi in spite of being fantasy.

I tend to find that I can ALWAYS justify a film's inclusion on almost any list.

Mainly because I despise genre definition and in particular genre rigidity, but also I have a complex where I end up talking myself into including something based on it being close to or sharing certain themes or elements of something else that could be classed as such... I'm really terrible for doing this.

Same here, which is why I prefer to keep my lists around 10-30 long to keep the essentials instead of going off on tangents which is always going to happen in a top 100 list.

And I've always known Star Wars as a space opera

I can't believe you guys are actually contemplating whether Star Wars should be on a sci-fi list.

I know! It's clearly a cut and dry romantic comedy.

A lot there I haven't seen.

The Black Hole still remains a er... black hole in my viewing.

I'm disappointed to see that Doctor Who: The Movie is absent from your list, Dem.

I've realized 13 films are absent from my sodding list.

What else haven't you see B_E?
