January sound good to me as well because it gives me time to: A) Come up with a list of all the sci-fi films I own and want to own B) Put that list into a rough order C) Watch the films I haven't seen in a long time and adjust their position in the list accordingly D) Refine the list into a definitive 50. Fun times ahead!

Why would you even contemplate the Greek mythology film Jason and the Argonauts being a sci-fi?

if you Google "jason and the Argonauts" with "sci fi" you'll see what I mean, probably not helped by the label 'sci fi/fantasy'

plato: I've assumed that The Fly, The Blob, and War of the Worlds are all the original films for the purposes of the list. If not, please let me know!
