Although there was no festive Doctor Who episode for the first time since 2004 this year i've certainly had a nice Doctor Who Christmas watching Planet of Giants, The Dalek Invasion of Earth, The Hand of Fear, Revelation of the Daleks, The Snowmen and The Time of the Doctor on Blu-ray.

Planet of Giants which is mainly studio shot looked superb with it's 1080I upscaled black and white image.

A snippet of a spoiler perhaps from script editor Scott Handcock in the latest magazine.

Quote:
"Russell confirms a name for some anonymous monsters in Block One. We can't help referencing two old fourth and seventh Doctor adversaries but to say more would give them away."
Any guesses?

Vampires perhaps?

It's from 'The Mirror', so believe it if you want to!

Lost Doctor Who episodes brought back using cartoons to mark 60th anniversary

"... Lost Doctor Who episodes are being brought back to life using cartoons and colour.

To mark the sci-fi show’s 60th anniversary this year, two stories from the 1960s are to be drawn and released on Blu-ray and DVD.

They are William Hartnell’s penultimate story The Smugglers, and Patrick Troughton’s third adventure, The Underwater Menace.

Episodes two and three of The Underwater Menace have been recovered, but only brief clips from The Smugglers story exist.

BBC bosses plan to colourise certain stories from the Hartnell and Troughton eras (1963-69), for broadcast next year. This is likely to include the very first story, An Unearthly Child.

The animation deal is not connected to the show’s tie-up with Disney+...."

They've never been wrong once regarding animations AFAIK, so...

Not been very impressed with recent animations. It will be interesting to see though, depending on where the new funding is coming from, if they persist with colour and the silly need to animate eps that still exist (both of which were down to BBC America).

I'm actually more excited by the prospect of colourisations - providing it's done well could be an exciting new way to watch 60s Who. I heard they were doing with this with 2 Hancock eps so it happening with Who seems not just plausible but inevitable.

I suppose you can't get better than Disney in help with animations.

I know it says 'No connection with Disney' but if you are going into partnership with the legendary animation company surely you've got to gain something out of it.

I've currently two chapters to go reading the new illustrated Doctor Who and the Daleks novel and absolutely loving it, reading it carefully and poring over the artworks. It would make an ideal story to colour for a 21st century audience.
