Recently rewatched Inferno - easily my favourite of the Jon Pertwee stories that I've seen so far; it really is well paced for seven episodes, no mean feat considering that six or seven classic episodes usually have the occasional drag. I absolutely love the sequence where the Doctor first encounters the parallel universe but does not quite get there - Pertwee's expressions with him spinning out of control are classic, and this nightmarish sequence is so well done; it's a shame the new series has not quite had anything like this. This rewatch also made me reappraise Pertwee - for me originally, he was too much like a James Bond/Jack of all trades doctor and could be pretty seriously rude if not tetchy. But he is no nonsense and does have a good sense of humour - so like McCoy, he's moved up the favourites list, but the trouble with that is that the pecking order does not really exist; it's more a case of joint 2nds, 3rds and 4ths with several in the latter two.

The Beeb never ever really got their casting of the Doctor wrong, did they?

Currently started rewatching Frontier in Space, then I might watch Peladon Tales

Default Missing episodes found

"Christmas has come early for Doctor Who fans as two previously missing episodes of the show have been found, as announced at todays 'Missing Believed Wiped' event at the BFI in London.

Episode Three of Galaxy Four (1965) which was previously missing all 4 episodes, has been confirmed as found.

Episode Two of The Underwater Menace (1967) which was previously missing episodes 1, 2 & 4 has also been confirmed as found.

Further details regarding the location and finder of the episodes are still to be confirmed, and this news item will be updated as soon as we have more information."

'Doctor Who' missing episodes returned to BBC - Doctor Who News - TV - Digital Spy

More info on the missing episodes now recovered.

The clip from Galaxy 4 looks great. I love Hartnell as the Doctor.

Thats 2 / 4 episodes of The Underwater Menace now, they may be able to do a reconstruction with the missing two in the future.

Definately the best Who related news in a long time! It's amazing that these have been right under our noses for all this time when so much effort has gone into searching foreign archives over the last few years for lost episodes. What's also quite exciting is the quote at the end of the Radio Times article about the recoveries “Well, one or two other leads are being pursued at the moment. More than that I’m not saying!
Let's hope there are more finds on the horizon!

Years ago with the vhs releases i got a bit fed up of Pertwee as the Doctor. This year though with the glut of dvd releases of his stories he has come back into favour with me, and i have enjoyed all his stories that have been released recently.

Its a shame he had no psychic paper though, we could have cut two episodes from The Mutants.

William Hartnell is swiftly becoming my favourite Doctor, the more i see the better he gets. I didn't appreciate his stories when i bought the vhs releases.

I think the Christmas episode looks really good.

A picture postcard winter, not the shite we have outside now, heavy rain and wind to blow your wig off.

My first full Pertwee story was the Silurians and I really did not like him much in that, but with further exposure to his stories, I have grown quite fond of him.

Hartnell is also very good - my favourite so far is The Time Meddler; he's at his principled, righteous "don't you dare mess with me" best. But I think it's just as well that the unaired pilot remained unaired; there's no way Doctor Who could have taken off with that approach. I've actually got some Hartnell DVDs coming soon - The Space Museum/Chase.
