I think he will make an excellent doctor. Very underrated actor over the years who has finally been given a headlining role. If anyone wants a refresher as to how good this guy really is - check out his performance in Torchwood - Children of Earth. Absolutely superb.

With tonight's show being titled The Next Doctor i was hoping Moffat would throw a curve ball and name David Morrissey.

Especially as he also has a lead role in The Three Musketeers for the BBC.
That's exactly what my cousin said to me earlier. Could well be another 1 season Doctor on our hands!

I would think he'll play the Doctor more like the ninth rather than the occasional daftness of ten and eleven.

What do i know though?

He's a fan so he may stick around. Chris just saw it as a job.

I think Stephen meant he'd only stick around for just one series like Ecclestone

Who was the kid being interviewed on the sofa with Peter Davison?

Why was he there?

Anyone else think a few clip sequences aside the show was, for want of a better word, crap.

Indeed it was. 25 minutes of awfulness before the reveal. All they needed was opening credits, the announcement, end credits.

Yeah I had no idea who he was either. And yeah it was crap. A history and clips of the past regenerations would have been cool.

It would have made that expensive new box set redundant.

.........

I've just spoken to my mum who didn't know Capaldi but thought he looked an interesting choice for the role from the interview.

She went off the show a bit after Tennant left.
